Letter to the editor – Nick Morlan

Dear Greene County citizens,

I would like to express my support for and encourage others to join in the “Our Kids, Our Future” campaign and bond issue being voted on April 3rd. Although I am not a current Greene County resident, I am a Greene County graduate with many family and friends still in the district and I have a genuine interest in seeing the community move forward. I truly feel that this bond referendum will have a positive and lasting impact not only on the students of the district but on the community as a whole.

Many people may ask “is the cost worth it” or “what’s in it for me.” I look at this as an investment that you cannot afford to pass on. This is not just one more cost of living increase, this is an investment in the future of your children and community. This is an investment for the continued development and education of the children, and in the economic opportunities for the community. We are in a very different era today than when the current schools were built, which requires investment to improve. The time is noow to invest in much needed improvements and to expand educational opportunities.

Your kids deserve a first class public education in a modern and safe environment, and the community deserves citizens who are engaged in improving and expanding the opportunities for their children and community.

I encourage all residents to vote “yes” on this bond referendum to expand opportunity for your students and give them improved, safer schools.

Sincerely,
Nick Morlan, Jefferson-Scranton High School Class of 1997
