Genesis Development marking 45th anniversary by giving back

Genesis Development began in 1973 as the Greene County Sheltered Workshop with a rented building at the fairgrounds in Jefferson. Forty five years later and Genesis has 13 locations serving 16 counties across central Iowa. This past year has seen Genesis serve over 4,200 individuals with disabilities in a variety of services.

In honor of the anniversary, Genesis Development has made “45 years of creating dreams and opportunities” the theme for the year. Genesis also wants to be able to give back to the communities that have supported them for the past forty five years.

“We are about community and about people,” said Development Director Sara Morton. “Each of the communities that we are a part of have given so much to Genesis and to the people we serve. It is the least that we can do to just give something back.”

Throughout 2018, each Genesis location will be heading up and participating in projects intended to celebrate the 45th anniversary and give back to the greater community that has allowed them to thrive. These projects will range from food drives to blood drives and anything in between.

If people would like to participate in the Genesis Gives Back program, information can be found at the nearest Genesis location. For more information about Genesis Development, please contact Sara Morton at sara@gendeviowa.com

While the year is shaping up to have many events to commemorate the history of Genesis and remembering the changes that have come about, the future is still in the gaze of the company as change is inevitable and Genesis Development continues to thrive.
