Boil advisory in effect at least until Wednesday

Xenia Rural Water customers in southeastern Greene County, including Rippey, as well as northern Dallas County and southwestern Boone County will remain under a boil advisory at least until mid-day Wednesday.

According to Xenia distribution manager Kevin Lyons, an 8-inch main located two miles north of Beaver broke and has been repaired.

The affected area includes 550 addresses.

The boil advisory is mandated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to protect the public against any bacteria that may have entered the system while the main was broken, Lyons said.

The first of two sets of water samples have been sent to the DNR lab. Another set will be drawn tomorrow afternoon. “If all goes well, the advisory will be lifted sometime Wednesday,” Lyons said.

The advisory applies to 550 addresses. Lyons could not provide a total number of people.
