Babysitting Basics offered during spring break

Registration fee increases Thursday

Babysitting Basics, a course for county youngsters in grades 5-8, will be held  Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17, from 8:30 am to noon  at the Greene County Extension office in Jefferson. This is during the schools’ spring break, so there is no school on Friday. Participants must attend both sessions in order to be certified.

Participants  will learn babysitting responsibilities and what employers expect, ideas to entertain children, how to handle emergencies, first aid and safety pointers, and how to care for children of different ages. Sessions will be led by Kayla Hyett, county youth & 4-H coordinator; Sue Richardson, county families coordinator; and others including a dietitian, health care providers, members of law enforcement and the fire department, and parents with young children to observe and interact with.

Cost is $25 for all registrations received by March 7 and class size is limited. If there is room, additional registrations will be accepted at a cost of $35.

Registration forms were sent home with Greene County and  Paton-Churdan 4-8 graders, or they are available  up at the Greene County Extension office at 104 W. Washington St in Jefferson. Persons who want more information can call 515-3862138.
