Extension offers program for parents of young children

Focuses on developing literacy skills

Parents of children ages 3 through first grade are invited to participate in a new literacy program called Raising School Ready Readers at the Greene County Extension Office in Jefferson. Sessions will be held Thursdays, March 1-29, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Families participate in fun and educational activities, spend an evening as a family, and enjoy light refreshments at each session. This program is free of cost to participants through the support of the Shopko Foundation and Iowa State University Extension & Outreach –Greene County.

The program focuses on developing children’s literacy skills through play, turning every day experiences into learning opportunities. Younger children are also welcome to attend with their parents and childcare with light refreshments will be provided.
