Hot Chocolate Hustle: 4-H 5K run/walk fundraiser

The Greene County 4-H Young Leaders and the Youth Development Committee are teaming up to give back to the Greene County Fairgrounds by hosting the first Hot Chocolate Hustle 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Feb. 24. The event will take place at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

Check-in begins at 8 am and the race starts at 9 am. Persons who register by Feb. 14 will receive a long sleeve race shirt. Hot chocolate and other refreshments will be available at the completion of the race. There will also be prizes given after everyone has completed the course.

Cost is $25 before Feb. 14 and $35 on or after Feb 15. Shirts are not guaranteed after Feb. 14.

“The race is a family friendly and fun cross country-style course with rough and uneven terrain,” said Kayla Willms, county youth and 4-H coordinator for ISU Extension and Outreach. “We will have the race no matter the weather conditions. We could have a frozen ground or muddy roads. Either way it will be a great morning filled with non-competitive fun.” Strollers and wagons to transport children are not recommended.

“This is a great way for Greene County youth to give back to the fairgrounds and to show their appreciation towards the hard work the fair board, volunteers and donors who have made the renovations to the fairgrounds possible,” said Willms.

The Hot Chocolate Hustle is sponsored by Peoples Trust & Savings Bank. Prizes are donated by Muir Embroidery.

Persons who want to register for the Hot Chocolate Hustle can call Greene County Extension at 515-386-2138, email Kayla Willms at khyett@iastate.edu or visit the Extension office at 104 W. Washington St in Jefferson.
