Ram boys clinch winning season with win over CR-B

The Greene County Rams boys varsity basketball team topped the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders 72-36 in a non-conference game Thursday in Coon Rapids. The win puts them at 11-7 overall. With three games left in the regular season, they clinched a winning season.

The Rams jumped to an early lead and didn’t slow down. They were ahead 21-12 after one quarter and 38-20 after intermission. The score was 59-30 at the end of the third quarter en route to the win

The Rams won despite making only one of six free throws. They shot at 49 percent from the floor, including making seven of 16 shots from 3-point range. The Crusaders were much sharper at the free throw line, making 12 of 15 shots. They were 11 of 35 from the floor, with two of nine 3-pointers going through the hoop.

The Rams had balanced scoring, with Lance Hughes making 12 points. Jordan Patterson and Ben Bravard had nine points each, both ahead of their season averages. Trey Hinote and Joe Towers added nine points each and Wade Adcock added eight. All 15 players suited for the game played.

The win puts the Rams at 11-7 overall. They finish the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference season Friday in Monroe against the PCM Mustangs. They travel to Winterset Monday for a non-conference game against the Huskies that has been postponed twice due to weather. They’ll finish the regular season Tuesday, Feb. 6, hosting 17-2 and defending Class 1A state champion Des Moines Christian.
