Election year begins with Monday caucuses

The political process will begin in Iowa on Monday, Feb. 5, with local caucuses held in Greene County. Both the Democrat and Republican parties are gearing up for another busy political year. The meetings will begin at 7 pm, sharp. Participants must be present or in line at that time to take part in the meeting.

The Democratic caucus for all precincts is scheduled at Jefferson city hall, located at 220 N. Chestnut. The agenda includes discussion and adoption of proposed resolutions to be added to the county platform; election of delegates and alternates to the County Convention, and election of precinct committee persons to the County Central Committee.

Members of the Republican party will meet in seven locations around the county. They are:
Jefferson 1 – Greene County Elementary School, 401 E. Russell St, Jefferson
Jefferson 2 – Abundant Life Ministries, 1308 W. Lincoln Way, Jefferson
Jefferson 3 – Greene County courthouse, 114 N. Chestnut St, Jefferson
Central – Clover Hall, 600 E. Lincoln Way, Jefferson
East – Grand Junction Community Center, 107 Main St, Grand Junction
North – Churdan Community Center, 507 Sand St, Churdan
West – Scranton Community Center, Lincoln St, Scranton

Republicans will elect residents of the precinct to serve on the Greene County central committee; elect delegates and alternate delegates to the county convention which is planned for Saturday, March 10; propose and vote on platform planks to send to the county convention.
