VFW ‘back in business’ after possible sewer problem

VFW Post 9598 “dodged a bullet” regarding a sewer problem at its building at 108 N. Chestnut St.

Post commander Don Ihnken had alerted the city council to the problem Tuesday at the regular council meeting. He said the post would not have the money for a repair and would possibly “walk  away” from the building if the city didn’t assist.

Wednesday morning public works superintendent Dave Morlan had a crew there, as promised Tuesday night. The crew located a plug in the city sewer line cleaned it out. The problem is solved.

The veterans have rescheduled a soup supper previously planned for this Saturday to  Feb. 3. The VFW, VFW auxiliary and the American Legion will serve chili and chicken noodle soup from 5 to 7 pm. Free will donations will be accepted.
