The 2018 Ring Out for Art sculpture contest is underway with applications available to artists, amateur or professional.

The contest is organized by Jefferson Matters: Main Street’s Tower View Team with prize money provided by Home State Bank.

In the first two years of the contest artists were required to incorporate a bell into the sculpture. That requirement has been dropped for the 2018 contest.

Entries, including a sketch or model of the proposed sculpture, are due at the Main Street office, 110 W. Lincoln Way, by March 12. A $25 fee covers any number of entries per artist.

The Tower View Team will review the applications and select six sculptures to be displayed near the courthouse in May. A popular vote will be conducted during the Bell Tower Festival to select winners of cash prizes: first place, $2,000; second place, $1,000; and third place, $500.

Those three sculptures will be displayed on the bell tower plaza until the end of October.

The 2017 sculptures are for sale by the artists. Members of the Tower View Team encourage businesses or organizations to consider purchasing a sculpture and placing it somewhere in the community. Contact information for the artists is available through the Main Street office.
