Christmas season in full swing with tree lighting

Santa has the honors of lighting the tree. With him are Angie Reese-Hueser, organizer of the event, and Mrs Claus.

The Christmas season began in earnest Thursday evening when Santa Claus lit a community Christmas tree at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens and Welcome Center.

High school carolers provided music and Sugar Plum dancers from Prairie Blue Creative Arts honored the tree with a dance. After the festivities at the tree, the Clauses talked with girls and boys at the top of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. Becky Greiner played Christmas music on the carillon.

The tree lighting was organized by Jefferson Matters: Main St.

Also, the Clauses will meet with any children who haven’t yet given him their Christmas wish list next Saturday, Dec. 16, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Welcome Center.

The vintage fire truck Mr and Mrs Claus rode to the tree lighting is almost as flashy as a sleigh.
