Sheriff’s report – November 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Thursday, Nov. 30: At 8:17 am a deputy investigated a car deer accident in the 300 block of Highway 144 north of Paton. Jake Smith, 38, of Paton struck a deer. Damage to his 1968 Ford Mustang was estimated at $10,000. 

Wednesday, Nov. 29: At 1:59 pm a deputy investigated an abuse complaint in the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey. At 5:16 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 6:47 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 800 block of Hager St in Grand Junction. At 11:15 pm a deputy put cattle back in the fence on 235th St near Quint Ave.

Tuesday, Nov. 28: At 3:57 pm  a deputy assisted with a tractor and field fire in the 500 block of County Road E-63 (330th St) in Willow Township. The Bayard fire department responded and extinguished the fire. At 5:56 pm a deputy investigated a car deer accident on County Road E-53 (235th St) near Quint Ave east of Jefferson. Jason Cerveny, 44, of Jefferson struck a deer, causing an estimated $300 in damage to his 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan.

Monday, Nov. 27: At 6:56 am a deputy investigated a credit card fraud at Casey’s in Grand Junction. At 5:39 pm a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 west of County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. Kaitlin Petersen, 26, of Boone struck a deer, causing an estimated $2,500 in damage to her 2011 Kia Optima. At 7:08 pm a deputy investigated a gas drive off at Casey’s in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Nov. 26: At 4:28 pm a deputy investigated an electrical pole fire in the 1600 block of County Road E-53 (235th St) east of Jefferson. At 11:09 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 100 block of 210th St in Kendrick Township. At 1:56 pm a deputy arrested Christopher Christian, 37, of Scranton for driving while barred. at 2:52 pm a deputy investigated a vehicle fire in the 1300 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. Troy Thorpe of Jefferson was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup truck when it caught on fire. Jefferson firefighters responded and extinguished the fire. The truck was a total loss

At 4:10 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 9:01 pm a deputy investigated an anhydrous leak on a tractor trailer on Highway 4 near 210th St north of Jefferson. At 10:50 pm a deputy investigated two suspicious persons in the 500 block of 16th St North in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Nov. 25: At 3:07 am a deputy investigated cattle out north of Jefferson on Highway 4 near 190th St. At 10:32 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a domestic assault in the 300 block of N. Olive St. At 11;04 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 200 block of 6th St in Grand Junction. At 11:55 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1900 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 10:01 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD investigated a fight at the Xtreme Skate Center.

Friday, Nov. 24: At 3:27 pm a deputy assisted the Ringgold County sheriff’s office with locating a subject in Scranton.

Thursday, Nov. 23: At 2:20 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a domestic assault in the 300 block of N. Olive St. At 3:14 am a deputy investigated a possible missing person in the 800 block of W. Paton St in Paton. At 4:51 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 300 block of 4th St in Rippey.

Wednesday, Nov. 22: At 8:06 am a deputy investigated a complaint of vicious dogs in the 800 block of Q Ave in Hardin Township. At 5:29 pm a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 near Highway 25 at Scranton. Tammy Blust, 37, of Missouri struck a deer, causing an estimated $8,000 in damage to her 2003 Dodge Caravan. At 7:11 pm a deputy assisted the Sarpy County, NE, sheriff’s office with locating subjects in Scranton. At 11:46 pm a deputy investigated items found in a child’s room in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Nov. 21: At 11:23 am a deputy investigated unauthorized use of a credit card at Casey’s in Grand Junction. At 1:39 pm a deputy and Iowa State Patrolman investigated an abandoned vehicle on L Ave south of 270th St in Greenbrier Township. At 3:08 pm a deputy arrested Brett Roberts, 24, of Grand Junction on arrest warrants out of Ottumwa for failure to appear. At 6:14 pm a deputy investigated a car deer accident on County Road E-26 just west of Dana. Linda Prouty, 57, of Boone struck a deer with her 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,500. At 6:50 pm a deputy was called to the 600 block of Main St E. in Grand Junction to assist with locating a female. The female was located in the house. At 8:55 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 800 block of Percival Street, Grand Junction.

Monday, Nov. 20: At 12:01 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 900 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 10 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 100 block of X Ave in Paton Township. At 12:59 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 800 block of Q Ave in Hardin Township. At 1 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of Bell St in Churdan. At 2:11 pm a deputy assisted Audubon County with trying to locate a runaway in Dana. At 11:57 pm a deputy investigated a small fire in the 500 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Nov. 19: At 3:25 pm Christopher Lindaman, 18, of Jefferson was booked into the county jail on a charge of theft- fifth degree*. At 3:59 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of two aggressive dogs in the 700 block of Q Ave in Hardin Township. At 5:11 pm a deputy investigated a fire in the 1400 block of 100th St in Paton Township. The fire was found to be a controlled burn. Ay 7:56 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 700 block of S. 10th St in Grand Junction. At 11:30 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an alarm in the 700 block of S. Maple St.

Saturday, Nov. 18: At 2:36 pm a deputy investigated a fraud complaint in the 600 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Friday, Nov. 17:  At 12:11 pm a deputy conducted a welfare check in the 300 block of 4th St in Rippey.

Thursday, Nov. 16: At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a two vehicle accident on Highway 4 near 250th St south of Jefferson. Sharon Ostendorf, 77, of Jefferson was driving her 2011 Chevrolet Malibu north on Highway 4 when she struck a deer. Brian Malsom, 36, of New Auburn, WI, was following her driving a 2015 Peterbuilt semi tractor-trailer. When Ostendorf braked for the deer Malsom struck her vehicle in the rear. There were no human injuries. Damage to Ostendorf’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000. Damage to Malsom’s rig was estimated at $7,000. At 6:31 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 8:35 pm a deputy arrested Beth Lappegard, 23, of Perry on arrest warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine- first offense and possession of marijuana- first offense*.

Wednesday, Nov. 15: At 2:10 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 600 block of Dudley St in Churdan. At 2:17 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 9:13 pm a deputy investigated a vehicle with loud music in the 200 block of Fitzpatrick St in Churdan.

Tuesday, Nov. 14: At 7:20 am a deputy investigated a fire in the 900 block of County Road E-53 (240th St) in Scranton Township that was found to be a controlled burn. At 2:46 pm a deputy investigated a car in the ditch on 320th St near V Ave in Washington Township. The driver, Michael Powell, 36, of Woodward, was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance. There was no damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Nov. 13: At 9:53 am Chad Taute, 48, of Paton was booked into the jail for assault and trespass*. At 11:07 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:12 pm deputies conducted traffic control on Highway 30 at County Road P-14 west of Jefferson for a farm implement that broken down, blocking the eastbound lane on the highway. At 5:47 pm a deputy arrested Dray Rivera, 27, of Jefferson on Greene County arrest warrants for burglary- third degree and failure to appear*.

Sunday, Nov. 12: At 3:59 pm a deputy investigated a leaking anhydrous tank on County Road E-18 (130th St) west of Paton.

Saturday, Nov. 11: Routine activity reported.

Friday, Nov. 10: At 4:45 pm a deputy tried to locate a reported fire south of Grand Junction and west of Highway 144. At 8:35 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 600 block of Jefferson St in Scranton.

Thursday, Nov. 9: At 3:50 pm a deputy unlocked a car that had a child inside of it in the 100 block of Percival St in Rippey. At 6:55 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on Highway 30 at County Road P-33 west of Grand Junction. Zachery Danner, 19, of Grand Junction was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado in Highway 30 (direction not provided). Danner was turning south on P-33 when William Lowe, 21, of Grand Junction struck the rear of his vehicle with his 1998 Ford Mustang. Lowe was cited for following too close. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $3,000. Damage to Danner’s pickup truck was estimated at $800.

Wednesday, Nov. 8: At 1:20 am a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 at Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Eric Chrystal, 57, of Jefferson struck a deer with his 2017 Ford F350, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the truck. At 6:22 am deputies assisted by the Boone County sheriff’s office arrested Clay Paulson on Boone County arrest warrants. At 9:23 am the sheriff, deputies, Paton fire, Grand Junction fire, Churdan fire, Jefferson fire, Gowrie fire, and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to a house fire in the 1800 block of County Road E-18 (130th St) west of Paton. One person was transported to the Greene County Medical Center. At 2:03 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a combine and field fire in the 1900 block of 290th St in Washington Township. At 9:42 pm a deputy investigated a road sign that was struck on Highway 4 just east of Churdan.

Tuesday, Nov 7: At 9:28 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop in Grand Junction and arrested Christopher Laurent, 48, of Grand Junction for driving while revoked*. At 11:56 am a deputy and the Paton fire department responded to a field and combine fire at County Road P-33 (R Ave) and 120th St in Dawson Township. At 5:36 pm a deputy investigated the theft of a 4-wheeler in the 100 block of 1st St in Rippey.

Monday, Nov. 6: At 9:52 am a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 near K Ave west of Jefferson. Ronald Baxley, 55, of Scranton hit a deer with his Chevy truck causing less than $1,500 in damage to it. At 3:21 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1000 block of E. Sandoe St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Nov. 5: At 4:19 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite that occurred in the 700 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Nov 4: At 4:17 am a deputy investigated a burglary to Sparky’s in Churdan. The sheriff and deputies along with Calhoun County sheriff’s office, Sac County sheriff’s office, and Lake City police department conducted a search warrant 110 W. View St in Lake City and recovered some of the property. A second search warrant was conducted by the sheriff, Carroll County sheriff’s office and the Carroll PD on the vehicle used in the burglary and more of the stolen property was recovered along with a stolen hand gun. There were two juvenile males arrested in connection with the burglary in Greene County and burglaries in Sac County. At 1:29 pm the sheriff and K-9 assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office and the Department of Natural Resources with a search warrant in Boxholm.

Friday, Nov. 3: At 12 pm a deputy investigated a two-car accident on County Road P-14 near 150th St near Churdan. Mark Morrow, 57, of Carson fell asleep while driving and struck a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Kenneth Schmitt, 58, of Carroll. Morrow’s 1999 Oldsmobile Alero was totaled in the accident. Damage to Schmitt’s 2011 Chevrolet Silverado was estimated at $2,500. Morrow was charged with driving while barred and possession of drug paraphernalia*; he was booked into the county jail.

Thursday, Nov. 2: At 9:28 am a deputy investigated a theft at Sand and Butler Sts in Churdan. At 9:49 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway west of I Ave on Highway 30 east of Scranton. At 4:01 pm a deputy dispatched a injured deer at D Ave and Highway 30 west of Scranton. At 7:26 pm a deputy picked up a stray dog in the 500 block of State St in Scranton.

Wednesday, Nov. 1: At 7:07 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle rollover accident on 120th St and J Ave in Dawson Township. A 16-year-old female (not named) lost control of her vehicle on the gravel and rolled the 2003 Saturn in the north ditch. The vehicle was a total loss and there were no injuries. At 10 am a deputy investigated several bad checks written at the Paton Pit Stop. At 5:10 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. Melissa Kroupa, 39, of Grimes was arrested for arrest warrants out of Carroll County. At 10:20 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of W. Paton St in Paton.
