Extraordinary Citizen award to Vern Foje

Vern Foje is the honoree for the second month of Home State Bank’s Extraordinary Citizen award.

The award is a local award given by Home State Bank to an extraordinary Greene County resident or group who has gone above and beyond by giving their time and/or resources to benefit the community. The citizen(s) must be nominated by another Greene County resident. Winners get to select an organization to which the bank will donate $100 in their name.

Renee Carhill of Jefferson nominated Foje for spending years volunteering his time to take care of Greene County. Vern is often seen planting flowers, trimming bushes, raking leaves, painting, helping at events, cleaning the streets, overseeing community services and much more. Foje has chosen the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center (food pantry) as the recipient of the $100 donation from Home State Bank.

Residents who want to nominate a community member for the Dec. 8 Extraordinary Citizen award can pick up a form at the bank or visit online at hsbankiowa.com/award for an electronic submission.
