Incumbent Paton city council member Matt Fox will return to the council after his name was drawn from a hat at the county supervisors meeting Monday.

Fox did not file nominating papers, but he received 19 write-in votes to tie Jeff Headley, whose name was on the ballot.

The names of Fox and Headley were put in a hard hat decorated with Harley-Davidson motorcycle decals and supervisor Dawn Rudolph drew one to break the tie.

Mayor Steve Burrell also didn’t file nominating papers but was re-elected with 21 write-in votes. It is the second time Burrell has been elected by write-in.
