Paton picks mayor by write-in, council name drawn from a hat

Paton mayor Steve Burrell, who did not file nomination papers and was not on the ballot, was elected to continue in that position by write-in. Burrell received 21 votes. Jake Bohnet and Dave Crandell received 11 each and Brian Tasler got one vote.

Write-in voting was strong in the city council race as well. Two candidates were on the ballot for two positions. Diane Hanlon received 24 votes and Jeff Headley received 19.

However, Matt Fox received 19 write-in votes, creating a tie for the position.  According to county deputy auditor for elections Billie Jo Hoskins, the county supervisor will break the tie by drawing a name from a hat at their meeting Monday.

Other write-in candidates were Chris Sprecher with 12 votes, Dave Fields and Dave Crandell with two votes each, and Mitchell Tourte with one vote.
