Zelma Dyer, 1920 – 2017

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Central Christian Church in Jefferson for Zelma Irene Dyer, 97, of Jefferson.

Pastors Troy Emley and Sheldon Henderson offered words of comfort. Pat Emley accompanied congregational singing. Honorary bearers were Brent Emley, Eric Emley, Alex Emley, Nolan Emley, Troy Haight, Bruce Klinzman and Dallas Schrader.

Casket bearers were Will Emley, Bob Emley, Don Ahrens and Brad Klinzman. Interment was at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry.

Zelma Irene Dyer was born June 25, 1920, in Bayard. She was the daughter of William A. Klinzman and Ferne I. (Bacon) Klinzman. At an early age, Zelma and her family moved to Bagley. Zelma became a member of the Church of Christ in 1932. She graduated from Bagley High School in 1937.

In January 1940, Zelma married Donald Dyer of Perry. In April 1943 the couple moved to Los Angeles, CA, at the start of World War Two. They resided in California until November 2000.

Zelma transferred her church membership to Inglewood, CA. She was a member of Women of the Moose and served as president from 1958 – 1959. She worked most of her life in California as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1982.

Following Don’s death in 2000, Zelma returned to Iowa and took up residence in Jefferson. She became a member of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson.

Zelma Dyer passed away Ot. 20, 2017, at the Greene County Medical Center. She was 97 years of age. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her sister Loretta Russell; and her brother Darwin Klinzman.

Survivors include her sister Jane Emley of Jefferson; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and friends.

Services were arranged by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson.
