Rams use Pella vball tourney as a learning experience

The Greene County Ram varsity volleyball team won just one game of 11 at the Pella tournament Saturday, but coach Donna Carhill said the tournament was a good experience for the team.

“We knew at the beginning of the season that we would need to overcome inexperience on our team. With larger, 4A schools to compete against, we gained a great deal of experience at this tournament,” Carhill said. “With a few exceptions, we played competitively with most teams. We learned a great deal about digging tough kills and working to run an aggressive offense at this tournament. As it has been with the many of our matches this year, we can play with tough opponents, but just never seem to get in the win column.”

Scores on Saturday were 6-21, 16-21 vs Mediapolis; 11-21, 11-21 vs ADM; 18-21, 15-21 vs Boone; 8-21, 10-21 vs Pella; and 21-14, 17-21, 12-15 vs Knoxville.

Carhill added that the Rams tried new defensive strategies and seemed to get more digs and few more blocks.
