Middle school vball season ends with back-to-back matches

The Ram middle school volleyball teams ended their seasons with matches against South Hamilton on Monday and Nevada on Tuesday.

The seventh grade team traveled to Jewell Monday for the South Hamilton games and both the A and B teams swept the Hawks. Coach Betsy Wiederin did not provide scores or statistics, but named Emma Hoyle, Alexa Peters, Bella Schroeder, Ashlynn Hinners, Natalie Heupel, Gretchen Davis, Katrina Heupel and Hailey Grundon as top servers.

The eighth grade team hosted the Hawks in the middle school gym and lost six games and won one.

Game scores for the A squad were 12-21, 14-21, 8-21; for the B squad, 21-17, 19-21; and for the C squad, 16-21, 9-21.

“We are improving and had a lot of good volleys with South Hamilton The girls are doing a better job of running our 5-1 offense,” coach Teresa Green said.

Top servers were Avery Walker at 13 for 13 with two aces; Alex Miller at 15 for 17 with five aces; Lucy Dudley at five for six with two aces; Trista Gierstorf at three for three; and Addi Adcock at one for one.

On Tuesday, the seventh grade team hosted Nevada and the eighth grade team traveled. Wiederin reports both seventh grade teams won. The team finished with a 6-2 record. The coach said she is proud of the girls and how they have grown as individuals and as a team, and that their attitude on and off the court made them a joy to work with.

Against Nevada, the eighth graders lost five games and won one, but according to Green, the scores were much closer than when the teams played earlier in the season.

Game scores for the A squad were 20-22, 6-21, 13-21. B squad scores were 22-20, 18-21, 16-18. Green said setters Madi Van Pelt and Avery Walker did a great job of keeping the offense going.

Top servers were Maddi Hayes at seven for seven with three aces; Madi Moore at six for six with four aces; Gierstorf at five for six with two aces; Dudley at four for five with three aces; Marissa Lehnhoff at eight for 10 with one aces; and Mallory Prescott at four for five.

The eighth grade team finished the season with overall match records of 4-15-1, with the A squad at 1-7, the B squad and 1-6-1, and the C squad at 2-2. Overall game records were A squad 5-21, B squad 7-15, and C squad 5-5.
