4-H Awards Day set for Oct. 15

Re-enrollments due Nov. 15

Greene County 4-H members and volunteers will be recognized for their achievements and contributions at the annual Greene County 4-H Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, Oct.15, at John 15 Vineyard, near Scranton. The public is welcome to attend.

Awards will recognize 4-H members for their achievements in a variety of project areas, from science and engineering to swine and poultry. More than 45 4-H members submitted their record books this year, documenting their work. Meanwhile, leaders and adult volunteers who have served five, 10, 15, 20, 25, or more years in the 4-H program will receive much deserved accolades. Local organizations and current or past volunteers will also be awarded for their time and promotion of the 4-H program.

This year’s activities are a departure from past Awards Day events. Kayla Hyett, Greene County youth & 4-H coordinator said, “We wanted to do something fresh again this year and combined the August picnic, Awards Day and now our new member program and moved the event to John 15 Vineyard. This is a great day for all of our new members to see what they have to look forward to as 4-H members.”

The new member program will begin at 2 pm, when all new members and their families will have a chance to meet older 4-H members and talk about what the year has in store. At 3:30 pm the free activities will begin. There will be putt putt golf and yard games for 4-H members and their families.

The youth development committee is sponsoring and preparing a picnic meal beginning at 5 pm and the Awards Ceremony will start at 6 pm. Hyett encourages parents and youth interested in 4-H to take time to attend the awards ceremony and see the skills 4-H members are learning each year. “Please join us for a day of celebration!”

Re-enrollments due: 4-H members are also reminded to finish the online re-enrollment process for the 2017-18 4-H year. The deadline for re-enrolling is by the close of business (4:30 pm) on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
