Relay for Life planning begins Sept. 21

All are invited to join event leadership team

Planning for the 2018 Relay for Life of Greene County will begin with a meeting of the event leadership team Thursday, Sept. 21. Anyone who wants to be part of organizing the annual, countywide event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The meeting will start at 5 pm and will be held in the north meeting room at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

The team will brainstorm a theme for the 2018 event and kick around ideas for new fundraisers or activities for the Relay. The meeting will conclude by 6 pm.

“Most of our event leadership team is returning from last year, so this is a great time for newcomers to get involved,” said leadership team chair Tori Riley. “People will be able to pick which committee they’d like to be on without worrying about being drafted into a larger role than they want. Many smaller parts comprise Relay for Life, so there are jobs for people with all sorts of interests.”

Relay committees include sponsorship, teams, survivors, marketing/publicity, logistics, food, luminaria, silent auction, mission, entertainment, 5K run/walk, social media, website management, and others as needed.

Persons who want more information or who would like to be part of the event leadership team but cannot attend the Sept 21 meeting can contact Riley at 515-386-3087.
