Middle school sports round-up

Eighth grade football – The 8th grade Ram football team earned a road win to open its season Sept. 7, defeating the Roland-Story Norsemen 39-16 in Story City.

The Rams scored twice n the first quarter. Nathan Black scored the first touchdown on a 17 yard run. The point after touchdown kick did not score. The second touchdown came on a 7 yard pass from Joe Carey to Jackson Morton. The PAT was good and the Rams led 13-0.

During the second quarter Carey scored a TD on a 22 yard run. The PAT failed and the Rams led 19-0 at half time.

In the second half the Rams scored on a 3 yard run by Black (the PAT was good). Caden Telleen recovered a fumble in the end zone to score a touchdown and Bryce Stalder scored a TD on a 10 yard run. The PAT was good following Stalder’s TD.

New defensive coach Heath Telleen has made changes to the defense. “There was discipline and everyone played their positions strong,” head coach Chad Morton said.

“I was most proud of the boys’ attention to detail as we prepared for this game. They have done a great job learning the new offense and defense in 10 days,” Morton said

The Rams play Nevada in Grand Junction Sept. 14.

Eighth grade volleyball – The 8th grade volleyball team traveled to Gilbert Sept. 11 and took home three wins and six losses.

Top servers were Marisa Lehnhoff at 11 for 11, Alex Miller at 15 for 16, and Avery Walker at 10 for 11.

“We will continue to work on our passing and serving,” coach Teresa Green said.

Game scores for the A squad were 8-21, 8-21, 18-21. Game scores for the B squad were 9-21, 6-21, 13-21, and for the C squad 218, 21-13 21-15.

The overall match records are A, 0-2; B, 1-1; and C, 1-0. The overall game records are A, -6, B, 2-4, and C, 3-0.

The Rams host Nevada in the middle school gym Sept. 12.

Seventh grade volleyball – The 7th grade volleyball team hosted Gilbert Sept. 11. The A squad won one and lost two matches, while the B squad won two and lost one.

Top servers were Emma Hoyle, Analynn Baugh, Gretchen Davis and Ashlynn Hinners.
