Planning for 2018 Relay for Life begins

Riley heading Event Leadership Team; new volunteers welcome

The 2018 Relay for Life of Greene County IA will be held Saturday, April 21, at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

A large group of volunteers works on this event each year with planning beginning in the fall.

Peg Raney has been the event lead for the past four years and is stepping down from that role, although she will continue as part of the Event Leadership Team (ELT).

Tori Riley has agreed to take on the lead role and the committee is very grateful. She has been on the ELT for many years working with publicity. Riley attended an American Cancer Society Relay for Life leadership conference in 2017 and came back with renewed enthusiasm and new ideas. The ELT welcomes these ideas and ideas from others who want to be involved.

The Event Leadership Team meets the third Thursday of the month at 5 pm at the Greene County Community Center. Their first meeting for the 2018 Relay will be Thursday, Sept. 21. This would be a time for those interested in getting involved to contact Riley and talk about where help is needed. She can be reached at vjriley1@hotmail.com or at 515-386-3087.

Committees include team ambassador, sponsorships, mission, survivors and caregivers, activities and entertainment, silent auction, logistics, marketing/publicity, food, luminary, online and social media communications, logistics, and 5K run/walk. Organizations and businesses have provided volunteer help for this event.

More than 30 people are involved on the Event Leadership Team to plan the annual fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.
