Sheila Runkle – 1950 – 2017

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Sheila Kay Runkle, 66, of Jefferson.

The Rev Linden Wendzel of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson will offer words of comfort. Honorary bearers will be Earl Williams and many beloved co-workers.

Casket bearers will be her loving surgery team – Brenda Luther, Heather Shipley, Christie Pille, Ashley Wells, Janelle Cates and Tina McCollum.

A graveside committal service will be held at the Calhoun Cemetery in Missouri Valley. The Rev Wendzel will preside. Honorary bearers will be Robert Books, J.B. Pearce, and cousins too numerous to name.

Casket bearers will be Connie Heitl, Nathan Bylander, Arland Kuel, Gary Kuel, Dennis Jahn and Randy Mohr.

Sheila Kay Runkle was born December 21, 1950, at Council Bluffs. She was the daughter of Donald and Phyllis (Mohr) Runkle.

Sheila grew up in Missouri Valley, where she was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Sheila graduated from Dunlap Community School in 1969, and attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, graduating with a degree as an operating room technician. While living in Dunlap, she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City.

On Sept. 7, 1971 Sheila began her career at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. She worked in the surgery department as a surgery tech and ordered supplies for the surgery department for 46 years until her death. One of her many duties included sterilizing instruments for the hospital. In addition to her work, Sheila enjoyed helping anybody and everybody she could. She liked fishing and crocheting.

In Jefferson, she attended Trinity Lutheran Church.

Sheila passed away August 13, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a tragic fall at her home. She was 66 years of age. Preceding her in death were parents Phyllis and Don Runkle; paternal grandparents Grover and Blanche Runkle; and maternal grandparents Fred and Anna Mohr.

Survivors include her brother Dayle Runkle;, daughter Connie Heitl (Nathan Bylander); son Robert Books; and grandchildren Piper, Tatum, and Tanner.

Sheila will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and her many co-workers from the Greene County Medical Center.
