Tourism continues in Jefferson

Tour buses have a new parking place in Jefferson this summer with the opening of the Welcome Center at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens.

A group on a “mystery tour” hosted by a Des Moines bank last Tuesday was one of several tours slated in Jefferson this summer. The group two dozen or so people toured the gardens, visited RVP~1875 and the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower, had lunch at Angie’s Tea Garden, and had time for shopping and strolling in the downtown district.

Previously, buses parked on the west side of the bell tower.

The Welcome Center not only is “home base” for the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, but is also “home” for the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. After decades of being housed at the municipal building, the Chamber moved to the Welcome Center in early June.
