Greene County district court, week ending June 29

In Greene County district court Scott Eldon Davis, 47, of Jefferson was sentenced June 23 to 90 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree, amended from theft- second degree. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. Davis was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge. The judge found he is unable to pay $324.89 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, but a judgment was entered for $2,878.40 restitution to Alliant Energy. Court costs were $100. Christopher John Clifton, 56, of Perry was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- second offense, amended from possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must under a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Clifton was fined $625 with a $28.75 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE), and a $125 LEI surcharge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Kester)

Grason Trevor Lansman, 18, of Churdan was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Lansman must pay a civil penalty of $315, a $10 DARE surcharge, $400 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Christopher Robin Lawrence, 56, of Jefferson was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must complete the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone, and he must complete a community college drinking driver’s school. Lawrence was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. He must also pay sheriff’s fees for the jail time he serves, restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined, and $140 court costs. (Sentencing: Kester)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Mark Edward Dugan II, 37, of Des Moines, possession of methamphetamine- second offense; Kimberly Ann Mustang, 37, of Des Moines, OWI- first offense; Brian Thomas Roe, 47, of Carroll, OWI- first offense; and Nicholas James Miner, 38, of Perry, operate vehicle without owner’s permission, burglary- third degree, and criminal mischief- fourth degree. Trial dates were set for Sept. 26 for Dugan, Mustang, and Roe, and for Aug. 22 for Miner.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Shawn J. Gifford, 26, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; David Michael Cannon, 39, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Zachery Allen Waters, 20, of Paton, criminal mischief- fourth degree; and Steven Logan Dzuris, 29, of Jefferson, public intoxication- second offense.
