Cram the Cab for the food pantry June 26 – July 1

County residents should be on the lookout for a big, red tractor sitting in the parking lot at the Jefferson Fareway store the week of June 26 – July 1. This will mark the start of Greene County Farm Bureau’s second annual Cram the Cab event. The goal will be to “cram” the cab full of non-perishable food items which will then be donated to the Greene County Christian Action Resource Center.

During the week, grocery carts will be located inside the entrance to the store where shoppers can drop off non-perishable food items. Shoppers will also be given the opportunity to round up to the nearest dollar on their grocery bill, with the difference given to the ARC. Straight cash donations will also be accepted at the store or may be dropped off at the Farm Bureau office in Jefferson.

On Friday, June 30, from 5 to 7 pm, and on Saturday, July 1 from 9 to 11 am, Farm Bureau board members will be at the grocery store to assist shoppers, answer questions about agriculture, and hand out “Quick Facts about Agriculture” pamphlets. Also, during these hours, board members will have America Needs Farmers and Farm Strong T-shirts available for a $10 donation to the food pantry.

County Farm Bureau president John McCormick and Fareway store manager Doug Monaghan are both looking forward to this fun event “Last year the promotion went really well, and it was fun having the tractor and the excitement it generated,” McCormick said.
