Carnival celebrates success of PBIS at elementary school

A huge game of Twister was part of the fun.

Students in grades K-3 at Greene County Elementary School enjoyed a PBIS carnival June 1.

Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) teaches and reinforces behaviors by giving specific feedback while positively reinforcing desired behaviors.

At the elementary school, students receive tickets for demonstrating appropriate behaviors. Students can use the tickets to “purchase” a wide variety of incentives ranging from trinkets to an extra recess for his or her entire class or lunch “out” with the principal.

The students in grades K-3 earned more than 70,000 tickets during the school year, and the carnival was a celebration of that accomplishment.

The elementary staff was assisted by volunteers from Peoples Trust & Savings Bank, Home State Bank, and Greene County High School.
