Alan Eggers, 1946 – 2017

A Memorial Service of Remembrance was held June 11 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson for Alan Lee Eggers, 70, of Jefferson.

Pastor Sheldon Henderson of Central Christian Church in Jefferson offered words of comfort. Larry Dowd was soloist.

Military rites were provided by Floyd Brown Post 11 of the American Legion and V.F.W. Post 9599.

Alan Lee Eggers was born in Jefferson, IA, on Sept. 5, 1946 to Fred Carl Eggers and Beverly Joy Eggers Higgins.

Alan graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965. He entered the United States Air Force on Feb. 24, 1966. He was a maintenance technician for the Air Force and was a member of the crew of assistant mechanics for the C130 aircraft. He was honorably discharged Dec. 15, 1969. 

Alan was a specialist in information technology and had a degree in computer science. He worked as a networking specialist for the city of Chattanooga, TN.  Alan’s son, Chadwick Eggers, was born in Tennessee in 1988 to a previous marriage which ended in divorce in 2001.

Alan moved to Jefferson in 2000.  He worked for Kum & Go for 12 years. His hobbies included collecting sports cards and going to car shows. He collected guns, knives and silver and gold coins.   

In 2003, Alan met Gertrudes “Daisy” Asingho online. He visited her twice in the Philippines, and they were married in November 2007 in Jefferson. 

In September 2016, Alan began treatments for cancer. He died June 7, 2017, at the Greene County Medical Center at the age of 70 years. 

Surviving is his wife, Gertrudes “Daisy” Eggers, of Jefferson; mother Beverly Higgins of Jefferson; sister Jane Godwin of Jefferson; son Chadwick Eggers of Tennessee; stepchildren Kim Mikhael of Jefferson and  Jenibeth A. Estribor and Michael Asingho of the Philippines; nieces Erica Godwin and Laura Walker, and nephew Wade Godwin; and other relatives and many friends.
