Mahanay bell tower update

The 15 bells that were in a display case in the courthouse are back in Jefferson, inscribed and ready to hang at the top of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. They arrived with no ceremony in a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon.

They’ll be the first to be hung, probably on Thursday.

The large crane is in place, with workers using it to finish electrical work and painting. That is expected to take all day Wednesday.

The installation crew plans to work through the holiday weekend and finish the project next Tuesday or Wednesday. Installation is weather dependent, as rain or high winds would make work at the top of the tower unsafe.
