Lucille Geisler – 1937 – 2017

Services were held Tuesday, May 23, at Gospel Open Bible Church in Jefferson for Lucille Marie Geisler, 79, of Jefferson, formerly of Paton.

Pastor Dave Grandon offered words of comfort. Marlin Geisler was soloist, accompanied by Mary Grandon. Honorary bearers were Lucille’s great-great nieces and nephews Madisyn Behrens, Gage Behrens, Hannah Behrens, Noah Johnson, Gretah Johnson, Bella Johnson, Haylee Kraft, Kaden Kraft, Ronnie Kraft, Gabby Johnson and Olivia Johnson.

Casket bearers were Craig Johnson, Matt Johnson, Nick Dodson, Denny Ross, Doug Sukovaty and Larry Dean Monthei. Interment was at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.

Lucille Marie Schmidt, daughter of Alva and Clara (Kelley) Schmidt was born on November 24, 1937, in a farmhouse across from Spring Lake in Greene County, Iowa.  She was the youngest of five children.

Lucille started school in Grand Junction, then attended Mount Horeb country school north of Jefferson before moving with her family to the Gowrie area. She graduated from Gowrie High School in 1956. After graduation, she started working at Potter Drug Store in Jefferson, later becoming Woodruff Pharmacy.

On June 26, 1959, Lucille was united in marriage to Albert Geisler at the Christ Lutheran Church near Churdan. Lucille was a homemaker and helped her husband with farming for 50 years. She drove tractors, trucks, enjoyed mowing in the summer, planting vegetable gardens and tending her many flowers. Lucille also worked as a nurse’s aide in long term care for three years. 

She taught Sunday school and read the Bible through many times. Albert and Lucille enjoyed their “Friday night dates” and eating out with special friends. Also, Lucille hosted numerous family dinners, preparing everyone’s favorite dish. 

Lucille was a member of the Gospel Open Bible Church, the Churdan Legion auxiliary, The Friday Club and she enjoyed attending the Red Hat Ladies gatherings.

Lucille died May 19, 2017, in long term care at Greene County Medical Center at the age of 79.  She was preceded in death by her husband Albert in 2012, her parents, infant sisters Lena Mae and Beverly Ann, sisters Marilyn Johnson and Louise Davis.

She is survived by her children Katherine and Barbara of Paton, sister-in-law Edith Geisler of Fort Dodge, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
