Priorities named for Vision 2020 planning

School improvement, youth sports complex, expanded childcare top the list

Work on the county-wide Vision 2020 planning project is well underway.

Last week a large steering committee with persons from all over the county and of various age groups met to narrow the focus of the project. The steering committee identified improving schools, creating a youth sports complex, and expanding childcare services as the first priorities. Subcommittees are working on each project.

Those priorities were selected from a longer list suggested by various focus groups. That list included a micro-brewery, family-friendly and business class restaurants, an indoor water park, an athletic facility, a childcare facility, enhanced after school programming, a venue for live music, co-working space, housing, and expanded retail businesses.

The Vision 2020 planning is being assisted by Community 360, which includes community developers at McClure Engineering, RDG Engineering and Iowa Area Development Corporation.

The goal is two-fold: to support existing employers in their efforts to retain employees and grow, and to attract younger residents to live in Greene County.
