DAISY Award to Greteman

Kasey Greteman, RN, a nurse in ER/acute care at Greene County Medical Center, was honored with as the seventh DAISY Award recipient at a ceremony Thursday morning at the medical center.

Greteman was nominated by Becky Wolf on behalf of the Gene Walker family. Wolf described Greteman as an “Angel Nurse” and said she provided over-the-top compassionate nursing care to Gene after a stroke.

The ceremony was held during National Nurses Week and included a “blessing of the hands” by Pastor Charlene Wolfe, who is also a patient transporter at the medical center. A short presentation was given by Sarah Pendula of the Iowa Nurse Honor Guard at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

The DAISY Award is used to recognize exceptional patient care in more than 1,700 medical facilities worldwide. Recipients are nominated by patients and their families or by co-workers.

Nominees along with Greteman were Angela Davis, acute care nurse; Allie Hamilton, quality management; Maria Bretey, long term care; Karen Carman, care management/acute care; Laura Walker, care management; Megan Bonney ER/acute care; and Deb Hoskins, public health nurse.

Nominations are blinded and the winner is selected by a local committee at the medical center.
