Sheriff’s report – April 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Sunday, April 30: At 2:39 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 2200 block of V Ave in Washington Township.

Saturday, April 29: At 9:46 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 800 block of County Road P-46 in Junction Township.

Friday, April 28: At 1 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of child abuse in the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 1:52 pm a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle in the 400 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 5:18 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint in the 1000 block of Highway 144 north of Grand Junction. At 10:37 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 1300 block of Highway 30 west of Jefferson.

Thursday, April 27: At 7:19 am a deputy assisted the JPD with a traffic stop at Highway 30 and R Ave east of Jefferson. At 11:18 am a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in the 1900 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 3:20 pm a deputy investigated a property damage complaint on Highway 144 near 235th St south of Grand Junction. At 3:05 pm a deputy investigated a possible burglary in the 200 block of 3rd St in Rippey. At 6:46 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 1000 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 26: At 11:42 am a deputy assisted a bondsman with trying to locate a wanted person in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 4:56 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1200 block of Neola Ave in Hardin Township. At 9:52 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 400 block of 2nd St Rippey. Robert Rokitnicki, 48, of Des Moines was arrested for trespass*.

Tuesday, April 25: At 4:54 am a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 144 near 210th St north of Grand Junction. Louis Kitt, 55, of Jefferson struck a deer with his 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. There was minor damage to the vehicle. At 7:46 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle that has been parking in different locations around Rippey. At 8:46 am a deputy investigated a theft of a piece of farm equipment just north of Jefferson. At 12:28 pm a deputy investigated a trash dump in the 1800 block of 270th St in Franklin Township. At 2:59 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1300 block of Hillcrest Ave in Jackson Township. At 7:32 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of 270th St in Greenbrier Township.

Monday, April 24: At 9:19 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 500 block of Highway 30 near Scranton. At 9:20 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 500 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 4:38 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 6:20 pm a deputy investigated an attempted burglary in the 800 block of Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:39 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 700 block of Main St in Scranton.

Sunday, April 23: At 7:42 am a deputy arrested Jeremy Antonen, 34, of Grand Junction on a Carroll County arrest warrant for failure to appear. Antonen was transported to the Carroll County line and turned over to the Carroll County sheriff’s office. At 10:23 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1000 block of Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 3:23 pm a deputy arrested Gary Bundy, 44, of Rippey for a Dallas County arrest warrant for failure to appear. Bundy was transported to the county line and turned over to the Dallas County sheriff’s office.

Saturday, April 22: At 9:22 am a deputy investigated a cow walking down the roadway on Eaton Ave just north of Highway 30 near Scranton.

Friday, April 21: At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 500 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 11:24 am the sheriff investigated a trespass complaint in the 800 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 12 pm a deputy investigated a fraud case in the 200 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 1:47 pm Greene County Emergency Medical Services, Grand Junction fire and the sheriff’s office responded to a personal injury accident at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 144 at Grand Junction. Joan Tiffany, 73, of Grand Junction was southbound on Highway 144. She stopped as posted and then pulled into the intersection. Her vehicle was struck by a (no direction given) vehicle driven by Christopher Mickle, 33, of Boone. Mickle and a passenger in his vehicle, Stacey Langstraat, 42, of Boone were transported to Greene County Medical Center. Damage to Tiffany’s 2011 Chevrolet Equinox and Mickle’s 2010 Ford Fusion exceeded value.

Thursday, April 20: At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a missing person that was in Grand Junction but was missing from Jefferson. The person was located. At 4:47 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 700 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 19: At 9:22 am a deputy investigated a report of cattle on the roadway at E Ave and 170th St in Cedar Township. At 5:59 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 800 block of Stanton St in Scranton. At 7:39 pm a deputy investigated a report of low hanging power lines on Highway 4 near 130th St near Churdan. At 8:46 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan.

Tuesday, April 18: At 6:57 am a deputy investigated a call from Onstar of an accident on Highway 30 at County Road P-14 (J Ave) west of Jefferson. The deputy was not able to locate anybody in the area. At 9:51 am a deputy assisted the school in Grand Junction with an unruly child. At 11:10 am a deputy assisted Trinity Hospital in Fort Dodge with locating a subject who left the hospital. At 7:12 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with locating a subject in Grand Junction. At 10:49 pm a deputy investigated a property dispute in the 800 block of Main St. East in Grand Junction.

Monday, April 17: At 1:44 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with the arrest of Rick Comer of Grand Junction. At 9:26 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 2400 block of Sherwood Ave in Washington Township. At 11:30 am the sheriff investigated a harassment complaint that occurred in Grand Junction. At 8:31 pm a deputy investigated two suspicious vehicles by the railroad track in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 16: At 7:46 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 300 block of S. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 9:21 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with a structure fire in the 500 block of N. Maple St in Jefferson.

Saturday, April 15: At 11:06 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint on County Road P-14 and Highway 4 in Dawson Township.

Thursday, April 13: At 6:22 am a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 at County Road P-33 (S Ave) west of Grand Junction. Tonya Varnel of Paton struck a deer with a 2001 Honda Odyssey. The estimated damage to the vehicle was $4,500. At 12:02 pm a deputy investigated an accident in the 100 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. John Trucks, 56, of Grand Junction was driving a tractor and failed to signal before a turn. He struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Leslie Pralle Keehn, 30, of Blairsburg. Estimated damage to the minivan was $2,500. At 3:36 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1800 block of 205th St in Hardin Township. At 7:02 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1900 block of Locust St in Scranton. Nathaniel Brown, 51, of Des Moines was arrested for trespass and harassment- first degree*.

Wednesday, April 12: At 8:35 am a deputy investigated a complaint of unsafe passing of a school bus that occurred on Highway 144 near County Road E-53 at Grand Junction. At 1:09 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a truck that had rocks falling off it near Rippey. At 4:29 pm the sheriff assisted the Carroll County sheriff with trying to locate the owner of a cow with a purple ear tag that was found near Ralston in Carroll County. At 6:33 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of 12th St in Grand Junction. At 8:10 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1900 block of Locust St in Scranton. Nathaniel Brown, 51, of Des Moines was arrested for harassment- first degree and trespass*.

Tuesday, April 11: At 8:11 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1300 block of K Ave in Jackson Township. At 9:10 am a deputy investigated an identity theft in the 1200 block of 245th St in Scranton Township. At 1:20 pm Allen Smith, 50, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail for an arrest warrant for assault causing injury or mental illness*.

Monday, April 10: At 2:20 am a deputy looked for a runaway in the 1000 block of 130th St in Highland Township. At 8:54 am Erica Murphy, 26, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for an arrest warrant for accessory to a felony.* At 9:25 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 1100 block of Maple St in Scranton. At 11:11 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest at Wild Rose Casino.

Sunday, April 9: At 12:46 pm a deputy located a runaway in the 1400 block of T Ave in Junction Township. At 1:21 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 3:47 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint at County Road P-14 (J Ave) and Highway 30 west of Jefferson.

Saturday, April 8: At 1:26 am a deputy investigated an attempted theft in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 8:29 pm a deputy investigated a car deer accident at 230th St and K Ave in Jackson Township. Mark Kiefer, 55, of Lehigh struck a deer with his 2012 Dodge Grand Crew car. The estimated damage was $7,500.

Friday, April 7: At 3:19 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of 13th St South in Grand Junction. At 8:55 pm a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrolman whose vehicle was struck by an intoxicated driver while the trooper was on a traffic stop. Thomas Mertz, 58, of Perry was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated*. At 11:15 pm Jeffery Mize, 54, of Kingsley was booked into the jail for trespass.      

Thursday, April 6: At 9:10 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of S. Main St in Paton. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 400 block of H Ave in Highland Township.

Wednesday, April 5: At 10 am Noah Exline of Jefferson was booked into the jail on arrest warrants for lascivious acts with a child and sexual abuse- second degree*. At 10:56 am a deputy investigated a theft of gas in the 800 block of Fitzpatrick St in Churdan. At 8:03 pm a deputy investigated an animal neglect complaint in Churdan. At 8:42 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle rollover accident on 230th St and Falcon Ave in Scranton Township. Jacob Spaulding, 25, of Scranton swerved to miss an animal and lost control of his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and rolled into the ditch. There were no injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $7,000.

Tuesday, April 4: At 12:49 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop and located marijuana. He arrested Julie Wells of Carroll for operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, possession of marijuana, no insurance, speeding, and operating while license suspended*. The passenger of the vehicle, Jeffery Loggins of Somers, was also arrested on an arrest warrant out of Calhoun County for assault-simple*. Loggins was later transported to Calhoun County. At 3:33 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

Monday, April 3: At 3:30 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of N. 18th St in Grand Junction.  At 8:28 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 300 block of 7th St South in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 2: At 7:10 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 2:10 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 100 block of Lovejoy St in Rippey.

Saturday, April 1: Routine activity reported.
