Soccer on school board agenda

Soccer is again on the agenda of the Greene County Schools board of education’s regular meeting this evening (Wednesday) at 6:30 pm.

The board will receive detailed information about soccer programs in other Heart of Iowa Activities Conference school, the estimated cost of implementing a soccer program here, and the total cost and cost per participant of the sports currently offered in Greene County.

Last month as the board discussed transportation for students playing soccer in Boone under a sharing agreement, starting a soccer program here was mentioned. That discussion was cut short as it was not relevant to the agenda item.

Ratification of a two-year contract with the Greene County Education Association is on the agenda as old business. Ratification was on the agenda for the April 12 special meeting but was tabled. The contract was not ready to be finalized due to a question about how state supplemental pay for teachers and base pay.

Expected at the meeting is action on the reduction of administrative staff. With the closing of the Intermediate School at the end of this school year the board will eliminate one principal position. The board in December approved a mixed criteria for determining which principal will be released. Superintendent Tim Christensen said he would have a recommendation in January, but that has been delayed as all options are considered. Personnel items are generally handled in the consent agenda, but a recommendation is not listed in the posted agenda.
