Greene County district court, week ending April 13

In Greene County district court Michael Lee Carlson, 20, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated (OWI)- first offense. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must completed the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation already done, and he must complete a community college drinking drivers course. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty; one-half will be waived after he shows proof of obtaining a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Susan Diane Martindale, 54, of Des Moines was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- first offense. She was placed on informal probation to the Carroll County sheriff for one year, and she must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. A judgment was entered for a $315 civil penalty, a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE), restitution for her court appointed attorney to be determined, and $100 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Ryan Christopher Ecklund, 33, of Jefferson, sex offense registration violation- second or subsequent offense; Logan Wayne Grazier, 20, of Scranton, possession of marijuana- first offense; Nathanael Nels Nielson, 31, of Jefferson, OWI- second offense; and Conner Laine Lopez, 20, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana- first offense. A trial date was set for May 9 for Ecklund and for June 13 for Grazier, Nielson and Lopez.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Erica Murphy, 26, of Jefferson has been charged with accessory to a felon. The warrant was issued Feb. 14 and returned April 10.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Michael Allen Kennedy, 52, of Nevada has been charged with possession of burglar’s tools. The warrant was issued March 7 and returned April 3.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Allen George Smith, 40, of Grand Junction, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Thomas Todd Mertz, 58, of Perry, OWI- first offense; Zachery Waters, 20, of Grand Junction, harassment- first degree; Christopher John Clifton, 56, of Perry, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; and Nathaniel Brown, 50, of Des Moines, harassment- first degree.
