Greene County sheriff’s report – March 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Friday, March 31: At 9:39 am a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrolman with the arrest of Donald Rundall of Bagley on a Webster County arrest warrant. At 4:19 pm a deputy assisted with a house fire in Rippey at 230 Cartwright St.

Thursday, March 30: At 6:13 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of 13th St in Grand Junction. At 7:38 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 800 block of Eagle St in Scranton.

Wednesday, Mach 29: At 1:22 pm Scott Davis of Jefferson was booked into the jail on an arrest warrant for theft- second degree*. At 4:40 pm Kimberly Nelson of Des Moines was booked into the jail for a probation violation. At 8:15 pm Glenn Summers Jr of Glidden was booked into the jail for a violation of probation.

Tuesday, March 28: At 7:51 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 10:37 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a 4-wheeler at Casey’s in Scranton. At 8:15 pm a deputy investigated an assault at the intersection of Hager and 14th St in Grand Junction.

Monday, March 27: At 7:40 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2300 block of County Road E-18 (130th St) in Paton Township. At 10:38 am a deputy investigated a suspected meth lab at Atkins Bridge in Franklin Township. At 2:11 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2300 block of Highway 4 in Franklin Township.

Sunday, March 26: At 12:55 pm a deputy assisted with a structure fire in the 900 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. It was found that the water heater was bad and there was no fire. At 1:40 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with looking for a vehicle. At6:11 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of Locust St in Scranton.

Saturday, March 25: At 11:24 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of Fitzpatrick St in Churdan. At 1:22 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 4:14 pm a deputy investigated an accident on County Road E-33 (190th St) and K Ave in Bristol Township. Wayne Lautner of Jefferson was eastbound on E-33 when the trailer he was pulling came unhooked from his truck and rolled onto its top in the south ditch. At 8:19 pm a deputy placed cattle back in their fence on Highway 25 and County Road E-63 (330th St) in Willow Township.

Friday, March 24: At 5:41 am a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 144 and 170th St south of Paton. Clayton Smith of Paton struck a deer with a 2004 Lexus 330. The estimated damage to the vehicle was $7,000. The vehicle was towed due to the damage. At 12:39 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 900 block of C Ave in Kendrick Township. At 5:06 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint at the Kirkwood Ave railroad crossing in Jackson Township.

Thursday, March 23: At 6:50 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road P-14 (J Ave) near 230th St in Jackson Township. Matthew Sutherland, 38, of Bagley struck a deer with his 2012 Ford F150 pickup truck causing severe damage to the front of the vehicle. The truck was towed from the scene. At 8:46 am a deputy assisted the Perry police department with looking for a vehicle that was involved in a domestic assault in Perry. At 10:31 am a deputy investigated a vicious animal in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 3:32 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint on U Avenue between Grand Junction and Rippey.

Wednesday, March 22: At 12:33 pm a deputy assisted Jefferson and Grand Junction fire departments at property in 1600 block of 267th St in Franklin Township.  The fire was contained to hay bales on the property. At 1:44 pm a deputy investigated multiple 911 calls to the Law Enforcement Center from the residence in 700 block of Main St in Scranton. At 4:45 pm Dacoda Lee Lawrence was booked into the jail for obstruction of emergency communications*. He was released on his own recognizance. At 6:18 pm a deputy assisted the Scranton fire department in the 1900 block of Locust St in Scranton. At 8:08 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on 230th Stand Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. Terry Ray Anschutz was traveling north on Jordan Ave when a deer had exited the west ditch. Anschutz swerved to miss the deer and lost control of his 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer. The vehicle rolled onto its passenger’s side in the east ditch. There were no injuries due to the accident and the vehicle was moved by private arrangement. The vehicle was deemed totaled with estimated $2,000 of damage.

Tuesday, March 21: At 7:18 am a deputy investigated a burglary call in the 1500 block of F Ave in Scranton Township. At 12 pm a complainant brought in possible drug paraphernalia found in the county. At 5:59 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident on County Road P-29 (N Ave) and 110th St. Mike Minnehan was driving a 1993 International grain truck southbound on P-29 and did not slow enough before turning west onto 110th St. The truck rolled onto its side. No injuries reported. Minnehan was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the truck was estimated at $10,000.

Monday, March 20: At 7:25 am a deputy investigated a theft in Churdan. At 11:51 am a deputy investigated a criminal trespass in the 800 block of Jay St in Churdan.

Sunday, March 19: At 6:33 pm a deputy investigated an assault that occurred in the county.

Saturday, March 18: At 2:06 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 2000 block of 100th St in Paton Township. At 4:12 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of ATVs being driven in Grand Junction.

Friday, March 17: At 3:42 pm a deputy assisted Jefferson with a fire complaint in the 1700 block of R Ave in Grant Township.

Thursday, March 16: At 10:28 am a deputy investigated a gas drive off at the Paton Pit Stop. At 11:56 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1100 block of Eaton Ave in Bristol Township. At 4:45 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1500 block of 320th St in Franklin Township.

Tuesday, March 14: At 9:15 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle on County Road P-14 and 330th St in Greenbrier Township.

Monday, March 13: At 2:11 am a deputy assisted a motorist that went into the ditch do the weather conditions on Highway 4 at County Road E-57 (290th St) in Franklin Township. At 9:18 am a deputy investigated several abandoned calls that were placed from a residence in Dana. At 11:53 am a deputy investigated a child custody issue in the 200 block of S. 19th St in Grand Junction. At 11:57 am a deputy investigated a vicious dog complaint in the 600 block of Hills Ave in Churdan. At 1:33 pm a deputy investigated a sexual assault that occurred in Scranton at a unknown address.

Sunday, March 12: At 11:54 am a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint on Highway 4 near County Road E-57 (290th St) in Jackson Township.

Saturday, March 11: At 3:53 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest in Jefferson.

Friday, March 10: At 7:36 pm a deputy arrested Doug Owen on a Carroll County arrest warrant. Owen was turned over to the Carroll County sheriff. At 8:23 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 1600 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township.

Thursday, March 9: At 6:30 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 just east of Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Vivalore Gallagher of Grand Junction was driving a 2012 Kia Sedona. The vehicle suffered severe damage and was towed from the scene. At 1:01 pm a deputy assisted with a trailer load of hay that was on fire at Eaton Ave and 210th St in Kendrick Township. The fire was caused by a wheel bearing. The Scranton fire department responded to the scene and put the fire out. At 8:02 pm a deputy investigated a suspected burglary in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. At 9:34 pm a deputy arrested Michelle Ely of Moorland on an outstanding arrest warrant for theft- fifth degree*. 

Wednesday, March 8: At 1:42 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle parked near the Grand Junction Community Center. At 8:20 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 6:01 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, March 7: At 1:39 am a deputy investigated an illegal parking complaint in the 600 block of 13th Street South in Grand Junction. Michael Kennedy of Nevada was arrested for possession of a controlled substance- second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia*. Kennedy’s vehicle was towed. At 6:51 am a deputy investigated a burglary complaint in the 300 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 10:30 am a deputy investigated a burglary to a vehicle in the 300 block of 14th Street South in Grand Junction. At 10:35 am a deputy investigated a burglary to a vehicle in the 500 block of Hager St in Grand Junction.

Monday, March 6: At 11:34 am a deputy investigated an illegal dumping complaint in the 500 block of Rebecca St in Grand Junction. At 11:51 am the sheriff, a deputy, and fire departments from Rippey, Grand Junction and Jefferson responded to a structure fire at 304 Cartwright St in Rippey. The house was a total loss and there was a truck that was also totaled in the fire. The cause of the fire was undetermined. At 11:54 am a deputy was informed of a field fire at County Road N-65 (D Ave) and 100th St. Fire departments from Churdan and Lohrville responded to the fire and put it out. At 6:56 pm a deputy investigated a car in the ditch on Quest Ave and 305th St in Washington Township. It was found that the car was blown off of the road by the winds from the storm. There was no damage to the vehicle. At 8:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vehicle blocking the roadway at Main St and 20th St in Grand Junction. The car was found to be blocking the roadway because of a downed power line.

Sunday, March 5: At 10:17 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of Lovejoy St in Rippey.

Saturday, March 4: At 10:07 am a deputy investigated a burglary at A Ave and 185th St in Kendrick Township. At 11:19 am a deputy investigated a driving complaint on I Ave near Churdan. At 12:23 pm a deputy investigated a report of a transformer on fire at 270th St and Highway 25 south of Churdan. At 1:51 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 2:45 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint at the Pleasant Hill church in Grant Township. At 7:52 pm a deputy investigated a car deer accident on Highway 30 and R Ave west of Grand Junction. At 10:28 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1100 block of Eagle St in Scranton.

Friday, March 3: At 3:10 am a deputy arrested Bryan Snell of Coon Rapids for driving while barred, operating under the influence- third offense, possession of methamphetamine, and interference with official acts (two counts)* after a traffic stop and a short foot chase at 335th St and Apple Ave in Willow Township.

Thursday, March 2: At 10:27 am a deputy investigated a vehicle found in the ditch on 150th St and E Ave in Kendrick Township. At 4:40 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint at Kelly and 13th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, March 1: At 6:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a suspicious person on Bell St in Churdan. At 9:38 pm a deputy investigated a concern of drug paraphernalia in the 500 block of 5th St in Rippey.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
