JPD tells sTEP results

Jefferson police officers wrote eight citations and issued 137 warnings during a special Traffic Enforcement Project (sTEP) March 15-18 for St Patrick’s Day.

Officers wrote two citations for driving while license suspended or revoked, two citations for dark windows, and one each for a seat belt violation, speed, no proof of insurance, and one other traffic violation.

Warnings were given as follows: seat belt, 26; equipment violations 22; dark windows, 17; registration violations, 14; no proof of insurance, 11; speed, 7; stop sign/ light violation, 7; operating while intoxicated, 2; driving without license, 2; open container of alcohol, 1; and other traffic violations, 28.

Officers also investigated one accident.

JPD captain Heath Enns explained that an OWI warning is issued when a subject is administered a standardized field sobriety test and passes it.
