Greene County sheriff’s report – February 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, Feb. 28: At 1:46 pm a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with a domestic assault complaint. At 2:05 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 200 block of North St in Dana. At 3:20 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping at Henderson Park. At 4:20 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey.

Monday, Feb. 27: At 12:08 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 300 block of S. Seventh St in Grand Junction. At 10:39 pm a deputy assisted with a semi-tractor trailer rig that was stuck in mud in a field drive on 310th St. near Highway 25 in Willow Township.

Sunday, Feb. 26: At 1:58 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of S. 9th Street in Grand Junction. At 6:47 pm a deputy removed a dead deer from the roadway on Highway 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson. At 7:02 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident. Rae Howard of Arthur struck a deer at Highway 30 near I Ave east of Scranton. At 8:25 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road E-53 (235th St) at Parkland Ave east of Jefferson. Lynn Hinds of Perry struck a deer with a 2014 GMC Sierra truck. The estimated damage to the truck is approximately $10,000. At 11:12 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest in the 1500 block of N. Elm St in Jefferson.

Saturday, Feb. 25: At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 400 block of 12th Street South in Grand Junction. At 12:54 pm a deputy investigated a possible theft in the 700 block of School St in Churdan. At 2:40 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 700 block of Main St in Scranton.

Friday, Feb. 24: At 10:08 am the sheriff investigated an arcing power line in the 1500 block of Highway 30 Street east of Jefferson. At 1:29 pm a deputy investigated an arcing power line at 125th St and Highway 144 in Paton Township.

Thursday, Feb. 23: At 12 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 300 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 8 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person around the 100 block of Lovejoy St in Rippey. At 12:02 pm a deputy investigated damage to a bridge from a vehicle had struck it. The damage was minimal. There was no vehicle at the scene. At 11:08 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in the 300 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Feb. 22: At 7:10 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident near the intersection of 230th St in Hillcrest Ave in Jackson Township.

Tuesday, Feb. 21: At 12:59 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief in the 300 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 8:22 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1300 block of 310th St in Franklin Township. There was no damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Feb. 20: At 1:16 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief in the 1000 block of 215th St in Bristol Township. At 6:11 pm a deputy assisted a JPD officer arrest Patrick Michael Kennedy of Jefferson on a warrant for probation violation. At 7:14 pm a deputy investigated an assault that took place in Churdan. At 11:49 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 700 block of 11th Street S in Grand Junction.

Sunday, Feb. 19: At 7:33 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1500 block of 290th St in Franklin Township. At 10:14 am a deputy investigated a vehicle accident on C Ave at 175th St in Kendrick Township. At 4:48 pm a deputy responded to dogs running at large in the 1000 block of Grant St in Scranton.

Saturday, Feb. 18: at 11:57 am a deputy assisted the Scranton fire department at the intersection of County Road E-53 (250th St) and D Ave in Scranton Township. At 2:19 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with an arrest warrant in the 700 block of W. Wall St. At 6:49 pm a deputy investigated a stolen vehicle in the 700 block of L Ave in Bristol Township.

Friday, Feb. 17: At 6:19 pm a deputy checked on a report of hogs out in the 800 block of County Road P-14 (I Ave) in Bristol Township.

Thursday, Feb. 16: At 12:52 pm a deputy was requested for a welfare check in 100 block of 2nd St in Rippey. The male subject in residence needed medical assistance and was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS. At 1:47 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 600 block of 150th St in Cedar Township. At 3:01 pm a deputy investigated a theft call in 300 block of N. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 6:08 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 700 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 6:32 pm Derek Eugene Ott of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of burglary- third degree charge. He was released on his own recognizance. At 7:27 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of Scranton.

Wednesday, Feb. 15: At 4:47 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1200 block of Highway 4 north of Jefferson. At 5:10 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block of 190th St in Bristol Township. At 5:17 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1400 block of 160th St in Dawson Township.

Tuesday, Feb. 14: At 6:38 am a deputy investigated a car/deer accident in the area of 245th St and L Ave in Jackson Township. Joshua Halterman was traveling east on 245th St when he struck a deer with 2013 Honda Civic. The incident caused approximately $1,500 in damage to the vehicle. At 8:37 am deputies and the Jefferson fire department were called to a vehicle rollover on County Road E-53 (235th St) and Parkland Ave east of Jefferson. Deeann Thompson was traveling west on E-53 when she lost control of her 1999 Ford Ranger. Fire fighters had to assist with extracting DeannThompson out the vehicle. Dale Thompson was her passenger and they both were transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS to be treated for possible injuries. The vehicle was a total loss with an estimated $5,000 in damages. At 6:25 pm a deputy advised of car/deer accident on Highway 30 by the Raccoon River bridge west of Jefferson. The owner had made their own arrangements for the vehicle.

Monday, Feb. 13: At 7:34 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1800 block of 315th St in Franklin Township. At 8:03 am a deputy investigated an assault that occurred in Churdan. At 10:35 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1900 block of 277th St in Washington Township. At 12:18 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 600 block of Hager St East in Grand Junction. At 8:25 pm a deputy assisted Guthrie County sheriff’s office in locating a possibly suicidal subject who was found in Bagley.

Sunday, Feb. 12: At 11:04 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department in the 600 block of S. Chestnut St. At 11:21 am a deputy investigated a vehicle that was stuck in a field at the intersection of S. Kendrick and Elm St in Scranton. At 2:47 pm Eddie Mun of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on an arrest warrant for gambling- false statement on application*. At 4:28 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in the 800 block of Sandoe St in Grand Junction. At 6:18 pm a deputy investigated a burglary  in the 2400 block of Highway 25 in Willow Township.

Saturday, Feb. 11: At 10:45 pm Daryn Mallory of Jefferson was booked into the jail for public intoxication*.

Friday, Feb. 10: At 11:56 am a deputy investigated a suspicious person on E Ave near Elm St in Scranton. At 1:50 pm Kelsey Lucas of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail for a probation violation. At 5:15 pm a deputy investigated a report of an ATV at the boat ramp on County Road E-53 west of Jefferson. At 6:10 pm a deputy arrested Allan Heywood of Perry on a warrant for failure to appear for driving while license suspended*.

Thursday, Feb. 9: At 1:07 am Seth Blumberg of Dayton was booked into the jail for an arrest warrant for failure to appear for driving while license suspended*. At 6:12 pm a deputy investigated an assault that occurred in Greene County but was unable to locate the victim. At 6:46 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint near 177th St and Brentwood Ave in Kendrick Township. At 9:29 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 400 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, Feb. 8: At 1:32 am a deputy investigated a single car accident on Highway 4 and 330th St in Franklin Township. Michayla Johnson of Jefferson lost control of her 2008 Mini Cooper and slid into the ditch. There was no damage reported to the car. At 2:40 am Jacob Ore of Jefferson was booked into the jail for an arrest warrant for failure to appear theft- 5th degree. Ore was later released to Carroll County for arrest warrants. At 3:55 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1200 block of 230th St in Jackson Township. At 4:08 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of 2nd St in Rippey. At 5:50 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with an assault in the 600 block of S. Mulberry St. At 8:10 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of County Road P-33 (S Ave) in Dawson Township.

Tuesday, Feb. 7: At 7 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 3:03 pm a deputy and the sheriff arrested Johnathon Kennedy on Guthrie County arrest warrants for harassment- first degree and violation of a no contact order*. Kennedy was charged in Greene County with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia*. He was booked into the county jail at 4 pm.

Monday, Feb. 6: At 8:44 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint near 185th St and Alpine Ave in Kendrick Township. At 2:30 pm Clay Paulson of Grand Junction was booked into the jail for a probation violation for criminal mischief- third degree. At 8:38 pm a deputy investigated suspicious vehicle that was parked in the middle of the road. This call turned into a missing person report. The Jefferson fire department assisted the Greene County Sheriff’s Office with searching for the two subjects near McMahon Access in Jackson Township. The two subjects were located at a residence around 1:30 am.

Saturday, Feb. 4: At 3:35 am Amber Revell of Jefferson was booked into the jail for domestic abuse assault. At 6:03 pm a deputy investigated a suspected burglary in the 900 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 8:13 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with a male subject at Vine St and Washington St in Jefferson. At 9:19 pm a deputy and the Iowa State Patrol investigated an accident at 140th St and Highway 4 in Dawson Township. Pamela Johnson of Fort Dodge was traveling northbound on Highway 4 driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. Ashley Holder of Otho was stopped at the stop sign for southbound traffic in a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Johnson collided head on with Holder’s vehicle. A deputy arrested Johnson for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated- first offense*. The State Patrol covered the accident. At 10:59 pm Nicholas Balderas was booked into the jail for theft- fifth degree, public intoxication- third offense, trespass, interference with official acts, and disorderly conduct*.

Friday, Feb. 3: At 10:44 am a deputy investigated a theft of a trailer in the 800 block of Main St in Grand Junction. At 1:45 pm Nicholas Lytle of Jefferson was booked into the jail for a parole violation *. At 8:10 pm Randy Gray of Scranton was booked into the jail for a parole violation*.

Thursday, Feb. 2: At 2:40 pm Travis Straight of Scranton was booked into the jail on warrants for violation of controlled substance, child endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 3:15 pm Amy-Lynn Gaines of Scranton was booked into the jail on warrants for violation of controlled substance, child endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 8:52 pm a deputy investigated a theft of a trailer in the 700 block of Sand St in Churdan.

Wednesday, Feb. 1: At 12:39 am a deputy investigated a missing person report in the 300 block of 13th St in Grand Junction. At 8:05 am a deputy recovered a stolen vehicle in the 1000 block of X Ave in Junction Township. The vehicle was left unattended and was reported stolen out of Webster County. At 9:12 am a deputy investigated a missing person report in the 400 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 11:20 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1300 block of Pioneer Ave in Grant Township. At 2:16 pm Kimberly Nelson was arrested for a probation violation for attempted burglary- third degree* and booked into the jail. At 6:02 pm a deputy investigated a theft of a vehicle in the 800 block of Main St in Grand Junction. The vehicle was located in Missouri. Crystal Bates of Carroll was arrested by the Missouri State Patrol on arrest warrants out of their state and also possession of a stolen vehicle*. At 7 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 600 block of 4th Street in Rippey.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
