Norma Ferguson, 1921 – 2017

A graveside Service of Remembrance was held Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery for Norma Lavon Ferguson, 95, of Jefferson.

Words of comfort were offered by the Rev Sheldon Henderson, pastor of Central Christian Church in Jefferson. Larry Dowd will be soloist.

Casket bearers were Jason Todd Ferguson, Chad Ferguson, Brad Ferguson, Alan Ferguson, Tessa Weir, Eric Winger, Adam Winger and Nicole Uebel.

Services were arranged by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson.

Norma Lavon Woodhouse was born Aug. 29, 1921, to parents Sam and Mable Woodhouse in Scranton. Norma was the fourth of five girls born to Mable and Samuel. She graduated from Scranton High School in 1938.

Norma married the love of her life, Merle D Ferguson of Dana, on Jan. 9, 1946. Together they had three children: Ronald, Richard, and Nancy. Norma spent her life raising her children, taking care of her husband, and working various jobs including a tenure as deputy sheriff that she loved to tell stories of.

Norma was a talented painter and enjoyed participating in many local clubs. She was a charter member of the Does, now in its 50th year, and served as president in 1973. She was a member of the Central Christian Church. She was a loving person who spread joy to those around her.

After her husband died in 2004, Norma lived on her own until she was 94 and then lived at The Gardens and then Regency Park in Jefferson. Norma died Feb. 12, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Leah Fengel of Jefferson, Gwen Mooseberg of Peoria, IL, and Doris Dunlop of Jefferson, and two infant brothers.

She is survived by her three children, Ronald (Dru) Ferguson of Amarillo, TX, Richard (Klarice) Ferguson of Jamaica, and Nancy (Thomas) Winger of Jefferson; sister Donna (John) Buckley of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
