Letter to the editor – James F. Riley

To the editor,

I want to compliment the Greene County boys and girls basketball teams along with their coaches. I also want to state the citizens of Greene County should be very proud of these young men and women in the way they conduct themselves in representing Greene County. We adults owe these young folks a “thank you,” but more than that, we owe these athletes an appropriate gym.

When I see the facilities we offer our guests to use for basketball and compare it to those of their own, I am embarrassed. I hear all the time, “Well, if it was good enough for me, it’s good enough for them.” This is the wrong answer. I hope they don’t have to wear the same uniforms worn when we were in high school.

Come on, folks, wake up. You and I are going to have to pay the piper for a new gym. Every year we delay this action it will cost more in the long run.

These young men and women deserve the best we can offer now and in the future. I have no children attending Greene County High School. However, there are young men and women of Greene County who represent me. I tip my cap to them for what they have accomplished this year.

When it comes time to vote on improving our school again I will vote “Yes!” This yes is not for me as an individual but as a citizen of Greene County for its future.
