Honors for Greene County Relay for Life

Media Mark of Excellence Award to GCNO, Raccoon Valley Radio

The 2016 Greene County Relay for Life was among 13 western Iowa Relays for Life that were honored for raising more than four times the national average per capita of $.83 raised at Relays. The 2016 Greene County Relay for Life was 10th on the list, having raised $4.64 per capita. A total of 37 Relays were held in western Iowa.

The honor was announced at the Relay for Life winter leadership conference held Saturday at Clover Ridge Conference Center at Lake Panorama.

Four of the Relays were in the Top 10 nationally: Shelby County at #2 with a per capita of $9.43, Carroll County at #3 with a per capita of $9.26, Emmet County at #4 with a per capita of $8.73, and Mills County at #10 with a per capita of $5.32.

Also at the conference, GreeneCountyNewsOnline was honored with the Media Mark of Excellence Award.

The award given for “commendable coverage of the Relay for Life and promotion of the Relay mission year round.” It was presented to GCNO publisher Tori Riley (left) by Caryline Clark, Relay for Life community manager for the American Cancer Society Midwest Division.

Raccoon Valley Radio also received a Media Mark of Excellence Award for its coverage of the Greene and Guthrie Counties.
