Greene County sheriff’s report – January 2017

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, Jan. 31: At 1:42 pm a deputy assisted a NCIS agent in Hawaii with a sexual assault that occurred in Hawaii. At 9:17 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 400 block of Harding Rd in Churdan.

Monday, Jan. 30: At 6 am the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Carroll County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant in the 1000 block of Eagle St in Scranton. There was controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Charges are pending in the case. At 11 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 100 block of Percival St in Rippey.

Sunday, Jan. 29: At 2:19 am a deputy investigated a single car accident on Highway 4 at 280th St south of Jefferson. David Rice of Guthrie Center was southbound. He lost control of his 2002 Ford Ranger and rolled into the west ditch. Rice was transported by Greene County Emergency Medical Services to Greene County Medical Center. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 10:42 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 900 block of N. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 11:44 am a deputy investigated a single car accident on County Road E-18 (130th St) just west of County Road P-46 (X Ave) in Paton Township. Jordan Hartig of Paton was eastbound on E-18 and lost control of her 2002 Ford Taurus. The vehicle rolled once onto its top. Hartig was extricated from the vehicle and transported by Greene County EMS to Greene County Medical Center. The Paton fire department and Grand Junction fire and rescue also responded to the scene. At 1:49 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1400 block of 270th St in Grant Township.

Saturday, Jan. 28: At 10:18 am a deputy investigated a single car accident at Highway 30 and R Ave east of Jefferson. The vehicle had slid into the ditch but sustained no damage. At 2:14 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 500 block of 11th St South in Grand Junction. At 7:04 pm a deputy arrested Shane Coil of Jefferson on an arrest warrant for failure to appear on a charge of theft- fifth degree*.

Friday, Jan. 27: At 7:57 am a deputy investigated a two vehicle accident at County Roads E-18 (130th St) and P-46 (X Ave) in Paton Township. Vanessa Vote of Grand Junction was southbound on P-46 and stopped at the stop sign at E-18. Emily Crimmins of Fort Dodge approached the stop sign and struck Vote’s vehicle. Crimmins was cited for failure to stop in the assured clear distance. Damage to her 2015 Ford Fusion was estimated at $1,200. Damage to Vote’s 2007 Toyota Prius was estimated at $1,500. At 11:29 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint that occurred at Greene County Intermediate School. At 4:10 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 700 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 7:25 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with an assault in the 700 block of W. Mahlon St in Jefferson.

Thursday, Jan. 26: At 5:46 am a deputy investigated a car in the ditch with no damage on Highway 30 near Highway 25 at Scranton. At 10:49 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 12:04 pm a deputy investigated as burglary in the 2100 block of K Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 3:51 pm a deputy arrested Christopher Christian for driving while barred and an arrest warrant for probation violation*. At 4:50 pm a juvenile was booked and released for possession of a controlled substance. At 5:51 pm a deputy investigated cattle on the roadway near Squirrel Hollow on Quaker Ave in Junction Township.

Wednesday, Jan. 25: At 4:31 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 4:37 pm a deputy investigated an intoxicated juvenile in the 600 block of Head St in Churdan. At 9:59 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of snowmobiles in the northwest portion of Scranton.

Tuesday, Jan. 24: At 3:45 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a traffic stop on Highway 30 near Oakland Ave. Matthew Blair of Scranton was arrested for an arrest warrant out of Cass County for possession of a controlled substance- first offense*. He was booked into the county jail at 4:25 am. At 5:50 am a deputy arrested Timothy Schrum of West Side on a Cass County arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance- first offense*. He was booked into the county jail. At 9:02 am a deputy investigated an animal neglect report in the 400 block of Madison St Scranton. At 10:30 am a deputy assisted the Webster County sheriff’s office with trying to locate a suspect in Grand Junction. At 1:47 pm a deputy arrested Donna Diekmann of Scranton on an arrest warrant for theft- second degree*. She was booked into the county jail at 2:15 pm. At 5:03 pm a deputy removed a dead deer from the roadway at Count Road N-65 (D Ave) and 130th St in Cedar Township.

Monday, Jan. 23: At 3:15 am Russell Gardner of Fort Dodge was booked into the jail to serve a sentence for operating while intoxicated- second offense. At 2:05 pm Seth Blitz of Dallas County was booked into the jail on a Dallas County warrant for domestic abuse assault*. At 5:46 pm a deputy and the sheriff investigated a careless driving complaint at the Churdan city dump. At 7:57 pm a deputy and the sheriff assisted the JPD with locating two subjects in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive. At 10:05 pm Benjamin Farrell Borkowski, 21, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for public intoxication*.

Sunday, Jan. 22: At 2:29 pm a deputy investigated a single car accident in the 1700 block of County Road E-53 west of Grand Junction. Kaeli Long of Perry lost control of her 1999 Nissan Sentra and entered the ditch and struck a Curve sign. The estimated damage was $2,500.

Saturday, Jan. 21: At 7 am Michael Matthews of Grand Junction was booked into the jail for public intoxication and disorderly conduct*. At 8:25 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident at County Roads E-33 and P-14 (190th St and I Ave) in Bristol Township. Brandon Murphy of Jefferson had put his 2011 Mazda MZ3 in the ditch, causing minor damage to the front end. At 4:49 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 100 block of Vine St in Cooper.

Friday, Jan. 20: At 1:10 am Michael Molle of Jefferson was booked into the jail for trespass- simple*. At 2:05 pm Norma Quario was booked into the jail for failure to appear*. At 10:47 pm a deputy assisted the JPD with an intoxicated person in the 600 block of S. Mulberry St.

Thursday, Jan. 19: At 8:25 am a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s o with a stolen vehicle at Zephyr Ave and Highway 30 in Carroll County. At 1:10 pm Shawna Nepple of Omaha, NE, was booked into the jail for prohibited acts- controlled substance and tampering*. At 11:54 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with the arrest of Michael Molle for trespass*.

Wednesday, Jan. 18: At 12 pm Brittany Smith of Jefferson was booked into the jail for failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance- methamphetamine- first offense*. At 1:08 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1000 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 3:03 pm Zachery Waters of Grand Junction was booked into the jail for disorderly conduct*.  At 4:55 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block County Road P-14 (I Ave) in Bristol Township. At 7:32 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint that was passed onto the Jefferson police department as it was happening in Jefferson. At 8:04 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 600 block of 3rd Street in Rippey. At 10:32 pm Mitchell Venteicher of Jefferson was booked into the jail for a parole violation*.

Tuesday, Jan. 17: At 8:50 am a deputy investigated a barking dog complaint in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 3:57 pm an deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 9:15 pm Darren Lehrkamp of Jefferson was booked into the jail for theft- fifth degree*.

Monday, Jan. 16: At 1:03 pm a deputy investigated a burglary to a camper at Spring Lake. At 3:33 pm a deputy assisted with the arrest of Sean Pollard for a probation violation. At 6:38 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint in the 1800 block of 283rd St in Franklin Township.

Sunday, Jan. 15: At 12:25 am a deputy investigated a suspected under-age party in the 2400 block of 180th St in Junction Township. At 12:38 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 600 block of M Ave in Highland Township. At 7:35 am a deputy arrested Christopher Christian, 36, of Grand Junction for driving while barred*. At 4:06 pm a deputy investigated a 911 hang-up in the 1900 block of M Ave in Jackson Township.

Friday, Jan. 13: At 2:53 pm a deputy investigated a 911 hang-up in the 600 block of Grant St in Scranton.

Thursday, Jan. 12: At 6:44 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 300 block of Hendricks St in Rippey.

Wednesday, Jan. 11: Routine activity.

Tuesday, Jan. 10: At 5:19 am a deputy removed a dead deer from the roadway at Highway 30 and Granite Ave east of Scranton. At 6:15 am a deputy investigated a single vehicle car accident at 305th St and Quest Ave in Franklin Township. Chelsea Gardner of Perry was northbound on Quest Ave. She lost control of her 2007 Ford Freestyle when she braked for the intersection. The vehicle rolled in the north ditch and was a total loss. Gardner was cited for driving without vehicle registration. The Jefferson fire department and Greene County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene. At 6:33 am a deputy checked on a vehicle that had entered the ditch and made it out safely onto a field drive on Highway 4 at 280th St in Franklin Township. At 8:35 am a deputy was unable to find a reported car in the ditch on Highway 30 near X Ave east of Grand Junction. At 6:39 am the sheriff conducted traffic control on 240th St west of Jefferson for a county truck that spun out on the ice and was blocking a portion of the roadway on the curves coming down the hill. At 4:56 pm a deputy investigated a gas drive off at the gas station in Paton.

Monday, Jan. 9: At 4:04 am a deputy investigated a single car accident near McMahon Access in Jackson Township. The name of the driver and the circumstances were not provided by the sheriff’s office. The accident is still under investigation. At 8 am a deputy assisted with a fatality accident in Boone County on Highway 30. The Iowa State Patrol filed the report. At 8:11 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint by railroad on I Ave in Jackson Township. Robert Mukka of North Dakota was arrested for trespass* and booked into the Greene County jail. At 12:47 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office, Jefferson police department, ATF agents, FBI agents, the state fire marshal’s office, and the Jefferson fire department executed three search warrants in Jefferson. The search warrants were served at 900 N. Wilson, 100 E. Perry St and 203 E. Perry St. The search warrants are part of an investigation started by the Jefferson PD in connection to a Carroll PD case. Items removed as evidence in the three executed search warrants include suspected narcotics, narcotic related items, firearms and related items, and suspected stolen property. The investigation is on-going with anticipated criminal charges in the near future. At 1 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint in Churdan. At 5:16 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of Orchard Ave in Hardin Township.

Sunday, Jan. 8: At 1:04 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 300 block of South 13th St in Grand Junction. At 8:33 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 800 block of 9th St in Scranton. At 7:28 pm a deputy investigated a dog complaint in the 800 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 11:37 pm a deputy investigated a burglary to a vehicle in the 700 block of Division St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Jan. 7: At 4:58 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block of 160th St in Bristol Township.

Friday, Jan. 6: At 5:92 on a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1600 block of 150th St in Bristol Township.

Thursday, Jan. 5: At 12:24 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 8:45 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block of Orchard Ave in Hardin Township. At 9:20 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1600 block of 160th St in Hardin Township.

Wednesday, Jan. 4: At 12:01 pm a deputy investigated a two car accident that was reported after both parties left the scene. At 4:08 pm a deputy investigated a careless driving complaint in Grand Junction. At 7:31 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an assault.

Tuesday, Jan. 3: At 3:28 pm a deputy investigated a burglary to a residence in the 900 block of Hager St in Grand Junction. At 4:48 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 2400 block of Highway 4 in Franklin Township. At 6:32 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious light at a farm residence in the 2300 block of 330th St in Washington Township.

Monday, Jan. 2: At 3:01 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1000 block of Grant St in Scranton. At 11:48 pm a deputy investigated a 9-1-1 hang up in the 100 block of Percival St in Rippey.

Sunday, Jan. 1: At 2:45 am a deputy investigated an alarm at the 209 Main in Paton. At 1:57 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1500 block of 290th St in Franklin Township. At 6:37 pm a deputy arrested Christopher Christian for driving while barred*.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
