P-C girls still on the hunt for a win

When the Paton-Churdan Rockets met played the At-We-Va Rockets in girls basketball in Churdan Jan. 3, one of the teams was going to get its first win of the season. Paton-Churdan  was one quarter away from the win with a 36-25 lead at the end of the third quarter. The visitors ignited for the last quarter,  scoring more points in the fourth than they had in the first three to claim a 51-49 win over the home team.

Sopohomore Jenna Beyers scored a career high 26 points, with eight of them the resulting from 10 trips to the free throw line. She also lead the team in rebounds with 13 and in steals with seven.

Junior Grace Geisler scored 13 points including three 3-pointers, sophomore Megan Carey scored five, sophomore Ty Smith and freshman Kalyssa Baker scored two each, and sophomore Briana Jewett scored one point.

The P-C team made 18 of 55 shots from the floor for 33 percent and made 10 of 18 free throws for 56 percent. The team committed 24 fouls and 19 turnovers, according to coach Tom Kennedy’s statistics.

Paton-Churdan hosts the 9-0 Exira- Elk Horn -Kimballton Spartans Friday evening.
