More than 100 pheasant hunters and friends joined the Greene County Pheasants Forever chapter for its annual fundraising banquet Friday evening in Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson.

The group enjoyed a meal catered by Lidderdale Country Store while raising money for habitat projects in Greene County, across the state and nation.

In the past 30 years, Pheasants Forever has assisted with 128 food plots, 676 acres of projects, 2,626 acres of land projects, 7,700 acres of nesting projects and 200 acres of shelterbelt projects.

The event was planned by the committee which includes Kevin Devilbiss, Jeff Gorsuch, Mike Minnihan, Fred Long, Susan Cort, Dean Dozier, Mark Gorsuch, Steve Cort and Kyle Terlouw. New committee members are always welcome.

Clay Stetzel of Laughery Auction Service in Guthrie Center cried the live auction. He was assisted by Gavin Laughery as bid hawker and committee members.

More than $2,550 was raised through the sale of canvas prints, metal works, mirrors and more. The top item was the canvas print “Country Road” by Terry Redlin which brought $300.

Ten cookbooks were auctioned, eight on the live sale and two on the silent auction. Those winners were in the running for a series of prizes including guns, gift certificates, ammunition and more. Almost $1,600 was raised in this method.

The silent auction featured a wide variety of items, netting more than $1,000. It contained an autographed Green Bay Packer football, flower arrangement, knife, wine holder, print, song bird habitat certificate and more.

There were several games to test the skills and luck of the competitors. All awarded nice prizes to the winners.

Door prizes galore were handed out to lucky winners. Many had been donated by local businesses who support the organization.
