GCDC town hall meeting Monday

Greene County Development Corporation will host a town hall meeting Monday, Oct. 24, at 6 pm at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.

Although much of the information at the meeting has already been presented elsewhere and reported, there will be some new information. Greene County school superintendent Tim Christensen will discuss the school board’s decision last week to seek another bond referendum in April.

There will also be an update on the activities of the Greene County Chamber of Commerce. While the Chamber board determines its direction since the resignation of short-time director Roccie Hill, the business improvement committee and the business promotions committee are forging ahead.

GCDC director Ken Paxton will tell the results of a workforce housing study completed in late summer and possible next steps based on that information. He will also tell developments in the downtown retail district and preview community development projects to attract new employees and residents.

Matt Ott of MidAmerican Energy will discuss the Beaver Creek Windpark, slated for construction in the eastern portion of the county north of Highway 30.

Jefferson city administrator Mike Palmer will provide an update on the $1 million downtown façade restoration project. One-half the funding for the project comes from a Community Development Block Grant to the city.

A question and answer period will follow the presentations.
