Boone ends baseball season for Greene County Rams

Eighth-ranked Boone had too much fire power for Greene County when the teams met in the Class 3A Substate District 4 baseball tournament on Friday, July 15. The Toreadors reeled off 15 runs in four innings to shut-out the Rams in the first round game played on the Boone diamond.

Boone picked up three runs in the second inning, five in the third and seven in the fourth to end the contest.

Boone had a powerhouse in Dresden Wilson. The sophomore pitcher gave up just four hits, walked none and struck out four. He was also a force at bat, stroking a home run, double and base hit to drive in five runs.

The Rams used three pitchers but were unable to stem the flow of Boone runs. Austin Delp was tagged for the loss and was relieved by Tyler Beger. Reid Lamoureux threw in the final inning. Together they allowed 15 runs on 12 hits, including two home runs and two doubles. Ten runs were earned. The trio walked two batters.

Chase Stoline rapped the only extra-base hit, a double. Singles went to Branden Miller, Wade Adcock and Delp.

The Rams and head coach Mark Sawhill close the 2016 season with an 11-17 overall record. They were 5-11 in Heart of Iowa action. Saydel won the conference title with a 15-0 record. They are ranked third in 3A on the coaches poll.

The Rams finished the season strong with eight wins in 11 games before losing to Saydel and Boone. Senior Reid Lamoureux led the team in batting with a .462 average.

Miller, Lamoureux, Beger, and Mac Adamson are the four seniors ending their high school careers.
