County fair starts with poultry, dog shows

Results told

After a year’s absence from the county fair due to avian flu last summer, live chickens are once again at the Greene County Fair.

The 4-H poultry show was the first species show at the fair, with eight exhibitors and judge Mike Boldon Wednesday afternoon.

Conner Allender won the grand champion trophy and Lucas Fisher won the reserve champion trophy.

In showmanship judging, Jack Schilling was the senior champion, Megan Palmer was the intermediate champion, and Ava Schilling was the junior champion.

All poultry showed was in the bantams and/or ornamental breeds division. Champions in various classes were cock- Lydia Leggit first and Fisher second; cockerel- Allender first and Kale Borgeson second; and hen- Allender first and Lucas second.

Poultry superintendents are Amanda McDonough and Brittany Gunn.

The 4-H dog show was Wednesday evening. Judges were Ashley Kinkade of Montezuma in obedience and Liz Hawkins of Fort Dodge in handling. There were 13 exhibitors.

In the obedience classes, champions were: pre-novice A, Trey Schilling grand champion, Ethan Frederick reserve champion; pre-novice B, Jackson Turner grand champion, Eliot Schilling reserve champion; sub novice, Kassie Lamoureux grand champion; novice A, Conner Allender grand champion; and brace dog, Samantha Hardaway grand champion.

In handling classes, champions were: Junior A, Trey Schilling grand champion, Grace Hardaway reserve champion; Junior B, Eliot Schilling grand champion, Autumn Consier reserve champion; and rally, Samantha Hardaway grand champion, Brian Hardaway reserve champion.

High point went to Trey Schilling.

The dog agility show, judged by Kris Goos of Pilot Mound, followed the dog show. In agility competition dogs and their handlers complete an obstacle course; handlers are beside the dog but may not touch it.

Results were: advanced beginner agility (dogs on leash) Kassie Lamouruex and Conner Allender, purple; intermediate agility (dogs off leash) Samantha Hardaway purple, Brian Hardaway blue; costume, Grace Hardaway and Autumn Consier, purple.

Classes at the dog show were sponsored by Guthrie County Veterinary Services, Schilling Farms, Van Meter Inc, and anonymous donations in memory of Tammy Calvert.

Dog superintendents are Melissa Schilling and Ashley Kuhl, with youth superintendents Samantha Hardaway and Caiti Schaben.
