Four injured, no fatalities in head-on crash on Highway 30

Four persons, including a Scranton man, were injured in a head-on collision today on Highway 30 near the Raccoon River between Jefferson and Scranton, but there were no fatalities.

The accident occurred at 11:59 am. According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Donald Egan, 72, of Scranton was eastbound on Highway 30 when the driver’s side front tire on his 2002 Ford F250 pickup truck blew out.  That caused the truck to veer into the westbound lane into the path of Debra Thompson, 52, of Alden, who was driving a 2016 Ford Escape.

Thompson took evasive action and the two vehicles collided head-on on the north shoulder.

Egan, Thompson, and two passengers in Thompson’s vehicle – Donald Skinner Jr, 62, of Ames and Doug Lake, 40, also of Ames, were all transported by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. Lake was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, while the other three were taken to Greene County Medical Center. Egan’s injuries were minor while the others’ injuries were more serious.

All involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts and airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Also at the scene were the Greene County sheriff’s office, the Jefferson fire department and Churdan rescue.
