Appliance cycling in effect this afternoon for Alliant customers

Alliant Energy customers south of Highway 20 and north of Interstate 80 who enrolled for the appliance cycling program will see their air conditioners cycle in 15-minute intervals Thursday, July 21, from 1 to 7 pm. The furnace fan will continue to circulate the cooler, drier air already in the home.

According to Alliant Energy, the program reduces overall energy use, which lowers costs for customers. Alliant activates the program in different parts of the state depending on the forecasted temperature for that area.

The program syncs air conditioners across the state to reduce the number running at one time, reducing peak demand and the need to purchase higher-priced energy to meet demand.

Participating customers get up to $10 per month from June through September, even if weather doesn’t dictate cycling appliances.
