3-2 week for Greene County baseball team

The Greene County baseball team picked up two wins last week, topping Perry and humiliating Carroll. They suffered losses to North Polk, #10 Saydel and Roland-Story.

As of June 10, Saydel sat atop the Heart of Iowa Conference with a 6-0 record. Gilbert was 4-1; Roland-Story 4-2; Collins-Maxwell-Baxter 4-3; PCM 4-4; North Polk 2-2; South Hamilton 1-4; Greene County and Nevada 1-5.

North Polk 8 ~ GC 2

Greene County suffered an 8-2 loss to North Polk in Alleman on Monday, June 6. Tyler Beger took the loss on the mound. In three innings he allowed seven hits and eight runs, five of which were earned. Beger walked two batters, hit one, and struck out two. Reid Lamoureux took over in the fourth inning and gave up no runs on three hits. He walked one batter.

Lamoureux went four for four at the plate, all singles. Branden Miller had two base hits with Beger, Calvin Skalla, and Bryce Burkhardt each collecting one. The only extra-base hit came from Wade Adcock whose double drove in a Ram runner.

North Polk led 8-0 after four innings before the Rams scored in the fifth.

GC 10 ~ Perry 4

Greene County picked up their second win of the season, downing Perry 10-4 on Tuesday (June 7).

Freshman pitcher Austin Delp pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on nine hits in his first career start. He fanned eight Perry batters and walked one.

Senior shortstop Lamoureux led the Rams with three singles and a double which included three RBI’s. Beger batted in two runs on a double and two base hits. Adcock’s two singles brought in two runs. Delp helped his cause with three base hits. Tom Gannon and Miller each accounted for an RBI.

Saydel 13 ~ GC 3

The Greene County baseball team faced top 10 rated Saydel on Wednesday night (June 8), falling 13-3 in Jefferson. The Eagles are undefeated in 10 games.

The 10-run rule came into play as Saydel reached double figures in the fourth inning and the Rams were unable to respond.

A seven-run second inning gave Saydel a big lead. The Rams added a run in the bottom of the inning and two in the third, but Saydel’s five runs in the fourth put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Adcock was the losing pitcher. He gave up 13 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits, five walks and two strikeouts. The Rams committed six errors.

The Rams had six hits on the night with a double and single by catcher Gannon. Lamoureux singled twice while Adcock and Delp each contributed a single. Adcock, Delp, and Chase Stoline each had an RBI.

GC 20 ~ Carroll 5

Greene County rolled over Carroll Thursday (June 9) in Jefferson, putting 20 runs on the scoreboard in just three innings for a 20-5 victory. The game was halted by the 15-run rule.

Dylan Fouch retired the Tigers in order in three of the four innings for the win. He allowed five runs in the second on six walks and two hits. He fanned seven batters.

Offensively, the Rams had 13 hits with a total of 37 batters facing three Carroll pitchers. Beger had three singles and four runs batted in while Gannon also recorded four RBIs on a double and two singles. Lamoureux doubled and singled, driving in one while Miller drove in two runs on two base hits. Adcock stroked a pair of singles for an RBI. Logan Lansman had a pair of singles and Delp cracked one.

Roland-Story 5 ~ GC 2

A 5-2 loss to Roland-Story Friday sent the Greene County baseball team’s record to 3-7 overall and 1-6 in Heart of Iowa Conference action.

A trio of pitchers worked the Ram mound. Beger, Miller and Lamoureux allowed five runs on eight hits. Four runs were earned. They totaled eight walks and five strikeouts. Beger was tagged with the loss.

The Norsemen put single runs on the board in the first and second innings, adding three in the third for a 5-0 lead. The Rams added runs in the fourth and fifth but couldn’t get the hits to score any more.

Greene County had just three hits on the night. Gannon had a first inning single, while Adcock doubled and Delp followed with a run scoring single.
